Cousins-as-incest is a very recent development, spurred by the desire of nations to force integration upon immigrants and to make things more difficult for isolationist religious groups.
In a really close knit social group where marriage between cousins is common,congenital defects are far more likely than in a marriage between cousins in contemporary western society. It's even less of a risk now than when it was common and legal.

Really? Cousin incest has been a huge debate in China for quite some time. Lots of different "tribes" disagree with each other. My grandmother is from a tribe where 1st cousins are taboo, 2nd cousins are iffy, and frowned upon (generally not accepted) and 3rd and beyond is ok.
How do I know this? My grandmother likes to educate me on all sorts of things. Pretty damn smart for a lady 80 years old and never ever went to school. (She technically knows Cantonese and like 3-4 other dialects of Hakka). I assume the Hakka tribe requires 2+ cousins, whereas other tribes I've heard 1st cousins are ok.
Legally in China though, I have no idea. Though I assume 1st cousins are ok to appease many tribes and to resolve the fact... there's too many guys vs girls.

Might have something to do with the fact the Hakka are a relatively small group in China and pretty insular community in the past. So they developed strong taboo against cousin pairings. I'm Cantonese/Hainanese and as far as I know, first cousin pairings are ok but not exactly encouraged.

Pfft. Only if the male side of your family is of the Hawklo (hawk people) descent. My grandmother is of the Hakka (guest people/family) descent.
Apparently my parents had to get past confucian incest. They had the same last name, but once the village of my mom's side was confirmed to be different, it was allowed.

marriage is allowed between family member of the 4th branch of relation where the likelihood of blood relation is most likely 5% and not more, it's pretty distant relation to be honest, and correlation of blood and DNA is normal at this level as most humans share around 3-5% DNA information,
1st branch:
parents, gramps, siblings, in short, direct relatives.
2nd branch:
parents(1st) siblings and their children
3rd branch:
parents(1st) siblings partners(2nd) (wives/husbands) siblings and their children
4th branch:
parents(1st) siblings partners(2nd) siblings partners(3rd) siblings and their children
quite far as you can see, in a direct interest line of curse so it's assumed to be safe.
Never heard of any 3rd or lower branches marriage attempts, other than royalty of curse :P

That said, it'd probably be best if they adopted.
The same goes with Homosexuals, it's not our business. If we're offended, we should simply turn the other cheek. There are plenty of things going wrong with the world. I'd be MUCH happier to see (Not literally) Incestuous relationships among homosexuals, than seeing kids kill themselves because of bullies.
