As far as incest goes, as long as the people involved realize that the general public would be shocked/horrified if it was discovered, they keep it behind closed (and preferably locked) doors and use as much 'protection' as possible to prevent pregnancy, they can do as they please....within reason.

Now, I've already put out my perception based on the idea of a community based society vs an individualistic society. Individualistic society, no one really cares. One could parallel this idea to illegal drugs. These drugs aren't legal (duh), but used by quite a few individuals. Clamoring for the legalization seems to get brushed off frequently. Most likely because it is perceived to have more harm than good. In a community based society, anything that damages the community is purged. (not just incest, but many other things as well). Mainly to ensure survival of the group.

I personally don't/wouldn't engage in incest. But I'm not going to slam someone who is genuinely in love. And yes, if it's an idea of "out of sight, out of mind" as others have stated similar to the parallels of the idea of illicit drugs or prostitution. I'd rate it as basically the same idea as "hey, I'm banging a hooker." and "Hey, I'm banging my sister". Not something that you really should be proud of...

Somehow, I think also it has many issues to do with the confusion between infatuation, love (which is overused a hell of a lot anyways) and basically different types of emotional support. I mean, people can't even tell the difference between acquaintance and friend anymore.

What I am interested in are people's rights. To be quite honest, I can't help but feel that later on people are going to look back at our time and see us in the same light that we see the Dark Ages, and it's sad because we can do something about it but nobody does.

There's practical and pragmatic reasons why we generally frown upon incest. Child is dependent on parent up to early teenage years. This creates opportunity for abuse of power for sexual gratification. Even between siblings, power structures exist. If incest becomes socially acceptable, it will open up a whole can of worms. There are enough fathers fucking their daughters as is. Do we actually want more of this?

And think about the repercussions on the family unit. Say a father and daughter start getting it on. They are in love, that way. What happens to the mother? And trust me, things like that will happen. Does she shrug and move on? Oh yeah my husband's cheating on me, with my daughter...

I don't think this has anything to do with being sexually progressive or open minded at all. There are pragmatic reasons why incest taboo is present in almost all human cultures.

I think "rape" in itself is a very bad thing, believe it or not, but even in marriage there is sometimes an incident when the husband "rapes" his wife, and the case is usually lost just because they are married.

But I think if allowed, Incest would simply go out of control, it's best to keep it illegal, and to your own sense of morality and ethics, then in most cases even if some people would find out about it, as long as nothing really bad happened(pregnancy would not be a welcome result) I think most people would just leave it alone.
At least in the Hentai, the incestuous relationships are taking place in a very closed circle, who knows maybe there are actually real cases like that, we might never know.

Hentai isn't the same as real life. To believe so is like saying, "I played Gran Turismo 4 a lot. That means I know a lot about how to drive cars in real life." It's based on realistic principles, but people know that it's not a true representation of what happens in reality.

The chances of there being cases of 'ongoing relationships' of that sort would be very small indeed.

Cousins don't particularly possess similar enough genetic material to be much of a concern. It's common practice in many cultures (and even desirable) for cousins to marry. [1] The further removed, obviously, the safer. First cousins are only about 2-3% more likely to pass on disease than a totally non-related couple, so you're pretty safe. If that's what floats your boat, go for it!
