Da Capo [Series]
« on: October 12, 2010, 10:28:11 AM »
* Note - The meaning of Da Capo.

Type: TV Series (26 Episodes per season)
Release: 06.07.2003 till 28.12.2003
Description for D.C.: Asakura Jun'ichi lives alone with his step-sister Nemu, as their parents are working overseas. Having been brought together by the marriage of their parents, they are happy at having grown up together, and are very close and supportive of each other, so close that perhaps they might have deeper feelings for one another. Being of the same age, they look forward to starting their third year in high school, but there is a breeze of magic in the air that seems to hold a promise of new friends and adventure.

In a magical town where the cherry blossom trees bloom unnaturally all year around, Jun'ichi stirs uneasily each night, lost in the images of other people's dreams. While Jun'ichi complains that he is unhappy at being a minor mage (only able to perform the simple magic trick of creating a sweet rice ball or two), a number of other special students somehow become entangled in his life.

Yoshino Sakura, the daughter of a magician and a childhood friend reappears after a six-year absence to show her joy at being reunited with Jun'ichi by clinging to his arm, calling him her onii-chan, much to Nemu's concern. The academy's school idol, Shirakawa Kotori, who is rumoured to have the ability to understand other people's feelings or thoughts, also becomes a friend of Jun'ichi and Nemu. The strange sisters Mizukoshi Moe and Mako, succeed in drawing Jun'ichi into their lives with disastrous results. And Jun'ichi somehow finds himself looking after Miharu-chan, a robot who is attending their school and Sagisawa Yoriko, a cat-eared foundling, who ends up staying at their house in exchange for doing maid work. But while Jun'ichi might complain about not having any magic skills and about many other things, there appears to be a greater magic at work in his favour.

Note: Most of the episodes have 15 minutes of anime followed by a 5-10 minute 'side story' which uses the same characters but in a different setting, or a (live action) pop music short.

Release: 03.07.2005 till 25.12.2005
Description for D.C. Second Season: * Based on the D.C.S.G. game / manga.

Two years have passed on the peaceful island of Hatsune. One evening a mysterious girl appears on Asakura Jun'ichi's doorstep, looking for Jun'ichi's grandmother, who only recently died. Since she has nowhere to go, Jun'ichi decides to take her in. When Asakura Nemu, Jun'ichi's non-blood-related sister, returns after two years of study at Nursing College, she is very much surprised to find her brother living under the same roof with this new girl. Nemu now works as trainee at Kazami Academy's infirmary, Jun'ichi's school. A few months later, Yoshino Sakura, also gone for two years, returns.

But who is this new girl and what connection does she have to the ever-blooming sakura on Hatsune Island?

Although some characters will probably look a bit familiar to the initiated eye, the cast is a new one. The two new main protagonists are the Asakura sisters Yume and Otome, who are the granddaughters of Jun'ichi and Nemu from the first season.

Release: 06.04.2008 till 29.06.2008
Description for D.C. II Second Season: * Based on a game by Circus. The story continues where it left off at the end of D.C.II.

The snow is falling onto the ever-blossoming cherry blossom trees. Sakurai Yoshiyuki and Tsukishima Koko have gotten over their failed relationship and are now able to exchange smiles and friendly words as classmates. As the school's Christmas Party draws near, a new story begins, a story of the ties Yoshiyuki has with Asakura Otome and Yume, a story of happiness and hope. However, Yoshino Sakura alone has a clouded expression, knowing as she does that a disaster is imminent. No matter how happy the dream may be, the dreamer must eventually wake. How will this disaster affect Yoshiyuki and the others?

T.P. Sakura: Time Paladin Sakura
AniDB | Official
Type: OVA (2 episodes)
Release: 25.11.2010 till 27.01.2011
Description: The project is a spinoff from Circus's D.C. ~Da Capo~ franchise and features the Yoshino Sakura character as a seemingly ordinary third grader with secret special powers.

There are a lot of Da Capo releases ranging from TV series, OVAs to Visual Novels. I decided to make a thread dedicated to Da Capo series. Anything relating to Da Capo should go in here to keep things clean.

Just a note to those who haven't seen this and planning to see this series. There's a large time line gap between D.C. and D.C. II and only few surviving characters make it. There is a lot of fan service in the series as well. This is a cow cash as anything related to Da Capo sells like hell. The visual novel supposedly to be among the best (I got yelled at by a Japanese dude for taking the anime very lightly, he told me to play the VN). It's similar to how Fate(Stay Night, Arataxia, manga, Visual Novels, etc); extremely famous among the otakus.

In what order should I watch Da Capo series?

T.P. Sakura: Time Paladin Sakura *
Da Capo

Da Capo: Da Capo if (alternative setting) **
Da Capo Second Season
Da Capo II ***
Da Capo II: Second Season
Da Capo I & II: Re-Animated ****
Da Capo III

* This OVA releases in two episodes both in late 2010 and early 2011. The time line is obviously set before the events of all Da Capo series. You don't need to wait for it to release as it focuses on Yoshino Sakura and her powers. Just start watching it from Da Capo
** An alternate setting having the main character choosing Shirakawa Kotori. You can watch this after Da Capo first season (recommended) or second season.
*** Set 53 years after the events of Da Capo season 1 and 2. There would be only few surviving characters.
**** Confession scenes of the four heroine characters. Should be watched after everything else.

Visual Novels

If you'd like to purchase or download the game, PM Tatsujin.

D.C.I.F. Walkthrough - Completely translated in English. This is about the route with Kotori!

Oh man!

Looks like another bunch of anime to d/l when my quota resets in a few days and I already have a whole bunch of anime to watch before I get anywhere near this lot.

Kidding.

Seriously though, is this worth watching?

the first Da Capo is still my fav anime of all time. its been in my #1 spot ever since i watched it many years ago on youtube. it took me a long time to get a good copy of it cuz back then i didnt know anything about torrents, so i ordered a copy from ebay lol. when i got it, the subs were a joke, thye were so bad. so i ordered  it again from another place and got a great copy with nice subs. just over a year ago i got my laptop and finally figured out how get torrents to work.

i cant find any of those special OVAs though, does anyone have them? i saw Da Capo IF, i dont like Kotori very much, so i didnt really enjoy it.

Sakura, however, needs a good spanking by the end of Da Capo.

If you liked Clannad then Da Capo would be a good to watch. It does have very minor magic involvement but for a good and bad cause, just like Clannad. It's not Clannad thou'. There is fan service (pretty funny ones) and the drama is wicked good. I remember some parts I was surprised to see.

The reason I made this thread was because there are two OVAs getting released. One in October (Re-animated PSP) and one in November and January of 2011 (Time Paladin Sakura). There are no "official" threads about Da Capo, so I decided to shove them all in one place.

I'm gonna have to agree. I favor Sakura more than Nemu, but what she did wasn't good.

Kotori is ... how do you describe it? Fucking amazing! She's hot, the ideal in their school and everyone wants her. Whats scary about her is she can read people's minds. She's also a singer.

Don't be so harsh on Sakura,
(click to show/hide)

I liked both Sakura and Nemu alike, i like that Nemu was the choice of the Anime show, and they did it great.

Kotori was too perfect, and she got her lesson too, I liked her but it was strange.

Havoc, spoiler >_>;; ....

Sakura and Kotori are my favorite characters in Da Capo. In Da Capo II I'd go with Sakura (again) and ... uhm ... yea, I guess that's it.

You know how I said I had a lot of anime to watch on my HD and then I was kidding?

Turns out I'm not.

I have both Clannad and Clannad: After Story, along with K-ON!!, Witchblade and a few others that I know are there, but can't pick out of the HUGE (for me) pile that I have.

Looks like I'm going to have make a "to watch" folder.  ::)

K-ON!! is the next series I'm watching after finishing Hayate no Gotoku!

Most people would like Da Capo Season1, Season2, Season3, OVA - blabla, Season4 etc...Untill i read this thread what do you think DC, DCSS, DCII would mean to me? absolutely nothing!

eg, some guy comes on forum, reads Da Capo is ok...so off he goes to search BBT (exactly what i did)

(click to show/hide)

when comparing to other animes and its sequels, without looking into it in more detail you wouldn't have a clue what the watching order is :| , i went by date though at first which was about right  :P

Check first post. It's much easier to just click on the link and download them now. I've already posted on "in what order I should watch them?" at the bottom of the first post, chronologically.

the watching order is not hard. just take the five minutes to figure it out, or for the quickest way, ask.

i watched DCSS also, but i still liked DC more. if i remember correctly, DCSS deals with the relationship between him and Kotori, and you get to see what she's truly like. i was expecting her to go full yandere :P and that Aisha girl (was that her name) was annoying.

*i want to see Time Paladin Sakura, it sounds really good.
