So I'm entering a contest on dA (I'll fail, but that's not the point

), and I was wondering if anyone could give me any pointers on how to draw clouds (preferably with markers, but in general is a ok aswell). As I want some in my background but trying to figure out how to do those from scratch on my own is proving a pain in the ass!

Any pointers on backgrounds in general would be welcome aswell btw

I do clouds by starting with the white (pink or w/e color you're clouds are gonna be idc) and filling in each shade gradually. I never start from dark and work my way up to light because it never looks right. You cant use markers with the second method anyway unless you use a white marker.... which suck from experience

In the end, its a cloud, it should be soft and fluffy so avoid using lines if you can.

Edit: I looked back a couple of pages in this thread, your marker technique is fine, you should be able to make some badass clouds lol

@ TiYlER, thanks, not sure if I'll be doing a lot of pencilwork in this one as the condition for the entries was in colour, but I'm sure it'll be helpful in the future

15 minute drawing, yea its crooked lol. oh disregard the top; i was drawing something else above it but the teacher suddenly wrote 4+5=2 on the board and i needed to figure out wtf was going on first so i gave up.

actually I looked at a pic of kirino.... or maybe it was ayase i dont remember, and i based it on that because this style is wierd to me, its technically not proportional lol

i got my avatar straight from the intro to RAINBOW because the style looked badass and i wanted to learn/assimilate it? need to practice it to learn lol. Oh and this one took a bit longer, i didnt do it in class. and yea i dont like mixing up mediums, its either all pencil or all pen. I cant draw clean anyway, so i just draw like 800 lines and I figure one of those lines will be the one i want, so i cover the rest in crosshatching lol

Finished the drawing... the sky looks horrible, I wish I hadn't used markers for it as it looked way better in just pencil :S

lol its 100x better than my first attempt. http://youtu.be/KlQqrxOyWTU she says everything i was going to say so i'll point you there lol.
oh and if you're gonna use a marker over your pencil, use a lighter pencil O.o like a 2h pencil or something. I only say this because every color looks like it has a shade of grey mixed in.

I was actually going for that look with the gray pencil and marker, though it needs some refinement (doesn't work for the face, for one) and needs (a lot) less for the hair. I'll look at the vid tommorow, as I'm quite tired and going to bed soon

I had actually drawn these for a project my friend and I were working on [we still are, it has just been stalled] and I hadn't posted them on the thread because they were premature. These designs are old and we may not even use them anymore, so I decided it is safe to show them. I know you guys are not bad, you won't go and call these your own and what not. So here:

The Story/Plot and what not is mixed up and only partially done. I may show a preview. We only have partial story and sketches, so there is a lot to go. I do not know how to set it all up or ink or shade or anything more than sketch.
