Hellgate was pretty much hyped up to be the next best "MMO" because it advertised itself as both a FPS (wow!!) and MMO at the same time. Not to mention the involvement of diablo2 developers too.

Hyped up by who? Stupid wow-fags who are so quick to label everything that has multiplayer as MMO? Because the developers advertised it as action-rpg. People who played Diablo knew it was arpg and were never expecting anything else.

Too bad it turned to shit pretty fast.
Turned to shit? Every update and expansion added awesome stuff to the game and unlike shit like aion, you didn't have annoying time sinks here. Only a genius money sink system.

I remember I was in a hardcore guild and that meant that we must make a hardcore elite character. I'll tell you there is no other online game out there (except for Diablo) that can make adrenaline rush like that when you see that your character is about to die.

Worst thing is what people make of Firefall. The developers have already stated quite clearly that it is not an MMO. Guess what wow-tards call it though? Some people should be banned from gaming.
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

Too many things in MMORPG's these days are time wasting time sinks that are more oriented at stalling you than anything else. Cause at the end of the day after all the killings and the quests there's nothing else there.

Everquest was the king of things like that. Boss runs hours long...

I recall reading someone skipped his wedding to do an EQ run. . .he didnt get married obviously

Everquest was so great though. I loved the world itself (along with the community) more than the actual game (even though i loved my necro to death). Perhaps I'm being too nostalgic but i wish that developers would focus more on building up an epic world and making it feel huge and engulfing than trying to make the built in time sinks more efficient. I really liked WoW when it first came out but now it just feels way too watered down and spoon fed for me that it no longer leaves any kind of challenge to keep up with. I liked the fact that EQ was a challenge and you actually had to work for your phat loots instead of them almost being handed to you like they are in WoW now.

We need real events like that virus incident in wowcraft that wiped out half the city, wish i was there to witness it.
Some dude was leaving a dungeon raid and didn't know he was debuffed, the debuff spread to other people.. dead bodies everywhere, the screenshots were epic.
Did you know Satan was supposedly gods RIGHT HAND MAN, not his left. Blows your theory out of the water now doesn't it.

I much prefer wtfowning people, get their loot, their corpse and their tears, and then in the end I simply say "sorry dudes, business only". Ah... the life of a mercenary...

...now, of what game am I talking about?

hint: it has been running longer than WoW, and it also has no relation with WoW or other WoW clones whatsoever.

...I've also been playing that game for nearly 7 years... can't get tired of it 8)

I hope you're not talking about Runescape as that game is crap. That being said I did play it for a pretty long time but back then I was more ignorant and stupider.

many people run away from the game tho. Understandable, because of the learning curve cliff. It takes a very different approach to enjoy eve tbh.

even so, it is a game that has been going strong for seven years, and it is still going strong.

IT TAKE 15 YEARS TO ATTAIN A SURVIVABLE FLEET! I'm sure master accounts are selling for 20k grand on ebay.

wait what?

"fleet"?
I do admit that the game is hard, but you don't command fleets. only single spaceships. and no, not 15 years lol, altho the first 6 months is pretty much the biggest barrier to cross, even if the huuuuuge tutorial pretty much teaches you the whole basics.

but hey, I can assure you that once you get the basics hammered on you, you get an enjoyable game that will give you the shakes every time you get in an engagement against someone else.

and best of all is, there is no true endgame.

Its sad.War was the first MMO i followed until release. One of the few games ive
ever pre ordered.Ya know the first couple months was really fun.I loved the tomb unlocks, public quests
and random boss monsters hidden around.I liked how they did instances.
I loved the pvp mechanics for the most part. The problem
was the game was unfinished and they had to make a lot of compromises on
things like end game city sieges(even  not finishing greenskin/dwarf,delf/elf),trade skills
just flat out lame and solo pve just being flat out boring. The game just never
was able to recover from those short comings.Had they gotten more development time
who knows what would have happened.I think there was just too many poor decisions made
on the high end of mythic.

RIP Warhammer i shall miss my Chosen.
