Want to seed but am concerned
« on: October 16, 2010, 05:22:26 AM »
I am a new member and wouldn't mind seeding, however, how can I be sure someone won't use my seeding as a way for them to exploit and hack my computer? ???

If it were possible to do that, then lots of the seeders in the world would have been attacked, which hasn't happened.

So you are safe.

Use peerblock or similar to help protect you.

Alright, once and if the download finishes, i'll use my laptop to seed and my desktop to leech so just in case something does happen it'll happen to a cheap $400 laptop.

Dude, you are being way too paranoid.
Ive seeded files for years and years, here and other places. Not once has anything ever happened. torrents arent the same as some old BS clients such as Kazaa or Limewire.

The chances of someone exploiting you in any way are slim to none and if anything- its more likely during the download process. So if you are going to DL, dont be afraid to seed.
Seeding is the act of putting info out, not taking it in. So if your afraid of anything, you are afraid of the wrong aspect.

tl:dr? if your going to DL then dont be afraid to seed.

LOL at OP. First line in quote is basically enough. ::)

Let me play devil's advocate a little. When you are running BitTorrent, you are providing your IP address to everyone who is connected to you. Why? So they can connect to you and share information. The exact same thing happens when you're browsing the web.

If you're scared of hackers and exploiters, you might as well not use the Internet. The only thing you're doing to help hackers and exploiters is being connected to the web - BT doesn't contribute. :P
