I tried to quickly check if there were any similar topics already, didn't find any. I tend to miss a lot of things though.

Anyway, did you ever consider (when) to stop watching anime? If yes, why?

Personally I do consider it sometimes, mainly because of the stereotyping. And sometimes I see things (guess the extremes) and I get the feeling: no !@#$% I want to be related to this in any way... Example, there are more horrid examples >_<

On the other hand, I do enjoy watching anime. You learn a lot of random things and the story-lines aren't bad. So for now I'm still watching

but not sure what happens when I finish my study "and enter the adult world" and start working...

I've stopped reading books almost all together, I've stopped watching TV, I'm really close to stop playing games, So I don't see any reason why I wouldn't quit watching movies or series someday too.

But just stop watching anime series and still watch other series or stop anime movies and still watch other movies? Not a chance.

No. Maybe take a break but never quit it all together. The only day i will quit is when the industry dies, just like america.

Yeah.. then I take a look at my manga collection and know I'll never escape the Anime/Manga industry.

Never.
I've taken long breaks (1 year) before but anime/manga is just something attracts me. I mean almost every anime is better than any TV series I've seen. I also love the Japanese Culture and part of that culture is found in anime/manga.
I don't really care about the stereotypes anyway. Because I know they aren't true. I do not talk about anime with my non-anime watching friends, because there is no need to. If they find out and label me as childish I'll just show them Higurashi or Elfen Lied and they'll shut up. I'm already labeled as a 4channer because I know a lot of memes even though I almost never go to 4chan ...

It's no different than watching something from my normal TV and film collection. Currently it's Desperate Housewives, but once I'm done marathoning that I'll move on to some anime. And heck, if I can find a working torrent I'm gonna marathon As Told By Ginger too. I can watch what I want at the end of the day. *Shrug*

I've sat and watched Sailor Moon in the office at work and other than "Oh what's that?" I've not had much else said. I more get people who are pleased that I like anime than willing to take the piss.

I'm too (relatively) new to anime to quit just yet! I've only been watching since November '09
Pretty sure I'm not going to quit any time soon. Why stop something I enjoy, especially when it benefits me a lot and doesn't harm me in the least?

Quitting all together no, had a break for a bit though because i watched so much constantly that i got to the point of thinking there's nothing good left. Which is partly true still, it's hard finding very good stuff i ain't seen.

Hmmm, well... I don't like it when people put any label on me XD so it's not really the "otaku" label specific I avoid. I prefer being an individual, people can call me "different". Just don't bloody label me into any group >_<

Anyway, it's more like I wonder how long it takes before I get tired of anime (grow out of it, kinda hard to imagine myself still watching anime when I'm married and stuff). This might be part of the stereotyping though, "cartoons aren't made for all-ages" (I guess).

I personally don't intend to stop watching Anime, sure I've had my ups and downs in how much I watch, but that's about it. I also don't care if others find me childish or w/e because I watch Anime, I like it and that's the important thing for me

Same thing for me. I watch what is interesting to me, so if they stopped making anime that is interesting to me then after finishing the existing interesting series I would stop or just sometimes rewatch some old ones.

Watching nothing but animé is probably unhealthy, after all it is simply a format for visual media. It's like asking a Shakespeare nut if he'll stop going to the theatre; it should be done in doses. I don't see me boycotting anime any more than I see myself boycotting films from the late 70s. I guess I could almost be considered on a "break" now as I decided to complete a game I meant to play, and then I expect I'll go watch some of the films that have been stockpiling. Then within a few weeks I'll probably make a move on the next anime on the list. It's all about moderation.
