I've never once considered it.
I am the only person I know IRL that watches anime and my friends still think they are "just cartoons" and I once got busted with my loli/ecchi screen saver running. But even with all that, I dont plan on stopping as long as I keep finding quality shows/manga.

Some people just dont get it but I have never felt embarrassed over it. So a stigma is the least of my worries. More importantly is the amount of time I spend on it where I could be doing something more productive.

Heh, my friends think that too. I have only 2 friends that watch anime, but they're not as 'addicted' as I am. Also, I don't like what they watch (Bleach, Naruto, Inuyasha...), and they don't like what I watch (mostly yuri stuff, or lolis, sometimes horror). So when we hang out we've got nothing to talk about, anime-related :P

I got busted by the prof playing a VN @ genetics class (Aoi Shiro), he said he wants to play Team Fortress, but that he waits until after classes, and asked me to do the same with my VN :P

Never considered stopping until now, but as the saying goes "never say never". Maybe some time will come whether there will be nothing worthy of being watched, or my tastes simply will have changed.

Cannot think of a valid reason why I would stop watching anime... Well I suppose if the great internet tubes where to break this would cause problems for me. But I do have a back up of anime waiting to be watched in my HDDs.

So, never.

Not all of us are adults doing that. I don't think I'll be starting to as a granny...

Not so sure about that but think of the BBT gathering for gramps and grannies to some lakeside.
Think about the poor people on boats.

Because we can!

I thought I'd quit anime after going into uni. Couldn't do it.
But I am watching considerably less due to time constraints.

Somehow I hope I don't end up like that. But if I do, seems I won't be the only one O.O

I'm 28 and made the decision awhile back that I had hit the age where I had to stop going to conventions to avoid being "That guy" that shows up, is too old for that shit and everyone avoids because for some reason it's generally creepy.

That said, I still love to watch it and don't plan on stopping anytime soon.  It will very much be a closet hobby for me though.

1. How did you make that graph? Is this somehow from AniDB?
It's from AniDB's stats page.

As for me, I've considered it several times. I have never quit, one day I will grow bored due to my favourite types of anime have stopped being made. Then I guess I'll quit and just do books/games.

^ this. I grew tired of reading, watching movies and TV. I'm presently getting tired of games, anime may very well at some point follow the same trend. Maybe not now, maybe not this year, maybe not in the next couple of years. But I wouldn't say it'll never happen.

I think that it's difficult to make a determined decision to stop. You just don't have time or don't find anything interesting to watch and anime's share in your daily life get reduced. Then one day just start again or don't at all. Simple eh? :D
Thanks Enzie!

Stop no, but I've reduced my consumption of anime to approx. 2-3 new shows per year. Why? Well, basically it's because I'm not exactly a fan of how the whole industry goes all "moe~" now. There are a few shows that have "moe" characters in them and that I find quite nice to watch, but all in all, I prefer anime which are less focused on "otaku". On that concern, I find the hype surrounding VNs, especially those created by Jun Maeda (Clannad, Air, LB, Angel Beats), rather bizarre. To me, these are like novels you find at the train station's "bookshop" or like Rosamunde Pilcher novels. Concept the same, characters are flat and boring (reminds me of what Ki-kun says in an episode of "Seitokai no Ichizon": spineless...) etc.

Nope, I won't stop. But as long as the industry focuses on creating only "moe" stuff, I'll definitely won't watch more than 2-3 shows per year...

I actually stopped watching anime altogether for a couple of months (which would be the about the last time I posted here).
Though it was only because of being busy and then ultimately because Netflix decided to carry all of the Stargate SG-1 seasons for streaming.

I'm gradually starting to get back into it, but I find that I don't know where to start watching.
Even picking from my backlog is difficult.

I don't think theres an actual reason to quit, maybe take a break but not quit, it's like saying quit TV or internet or computer, I just don't think that someone "can" quit anime, maybe just got bored a little...

I watch 5-10 episodes a week and I consider that as having "quit".

Before I used to watch 2-3 series (~70 episodes) a week, mostly on weekends.

Nowadays mostly watch really old stuff like Candy Candy or Sweet Mint or Lodoss War anyway, so I guess I'm as good as someone who has stopped watching cartoons completely.
