would you want to be a cyborg
« on: October 17, 2010, 11:44:26 PM »
it goes like this first: would you like to be a cyborg as in ghost in the shell or would you like to have cyber enhancements and if so what kind. second how do you think this would change the way the would is now?

i would go cyber in a second being old enough to see the end but young enough to still want to do stupid stuff, and my various injuries and illnesses just make the idea that much more interesting.
the world that is to say society would not change at first because of laws and conservative ideas but eventually the presence of persons that where virtually immortal and with out the need to reproduce would change the world out of recognition

look into my face children ....it is i that you shall become...

I would go Cyborg the way Solty was in Solty Rei. Be a complete "Resemble" with super technologies like sonic punch and the ability to fly and be a super computer that can run a city. At the same time, I think I would try to avoid any sort of "arrests" that the authorities might try to accomplish because of my Cyborgness. Plus, I would never have to endure physical pain ever again (but I would still wish to retain emotional pain).

Nope, I enjoy being organic.
There's no one in the world I'm interested in surpassing, excepted for myself.

the only cybernetic augumentations that I'll need would be:
Big brain storage space, with the ability to connect to a PC to download/upload stuff.
sort of an OSD thingy that is over my field of vision and shows me stuff, like rainmeter on the PC desktop.
HD video playback/recording
WiFi connectivity, or equivalent.
Indestructible liver.

Indestructible liver.
cheers.
Now that is it~!
Iron Liver Filter 2.2 solves that, no need to have an indestructible Liver anymore :)
stays organic with a few chips to filter out the tremendous amounts of alcohol :)

My wishlist:

- Reinforced bones like carbon fiber strong
- Enhanced brain capacity or that I can actively control all parts of my brain
- Stronger muscle fibers, ones that don't rip so fast
- Removal of my pain nerves
- Closed rib case enclosed with said reinforced bones
- Nano-robots who keep my body clean of all foreign materials
- Super fast cell regeneration (lost an arm, no problem it'll grow back on xD)

Indestructible liver.

You'll die from throat cancer then :3

Yes. It is the next paradigm shift in human evolution.

I'd want to be a cyborg like the people in the Dahak trilogy (aka Empire From the Ashes). Bones replaced with battlesteel (super-strong alloy), muscles replaced with extra strong synthetics, eyes replaced with better optics, built in recording devices, built in camouflage, skin that can resist small and mediums arms fire. The ability to directly interface with computers via a faster than light communications device.

The linear nature of your Euclidean geometry both confounds and befuddles me.

Check dates of publication. ^^

As for the topic, yes. I think genetic alteration would be a more long term sustainable solution though, even if it doesn't reach the same heights. Operating it into masses of people seems like something that can't be done with how hospitals and so on works now. Perhaps a few rich ones could afford it, well that and the military.

No, not really. The Geth are the ultimate hive mind.

A cyborg able to access a computer via an implanted device is... a human able to access a computer, but better.

I meant the overall construction of the Geth is very close to what you described :)

digital communication, synthetic muscles, reinforced skeleton, etc, it's exactly what Quarrians built, although they were meant as cheap labor and army, also Geth are not a hive mind, the more of them the smarter they are, but they do not share mind, the cooperate in order to increase efficiency, a hive mind is a collective of everyone thinking the same thing,

in the Geth you will not find it, each of the program (that is how they speak of their minds) looks at things at it's own perspective, they have the individuality of a single program for each Geth, they communicate with each other and form a consensus, if the consensus is not met, they seek for a solution,

a Hive mind decides on anything as a whole, having no individual perspective, thus not seeing possible other options to find a solution other than the common solution hive societies have, which is conquer, absorb, expand, survive.

In the Mass Effect the Geth do seem like a Hive mind for others, but Tali explained it in details, also In Mass Effect 2 Legion also explains it in further detail, there is no one geth, they are all Geth, but each can look at everything from different perspective allowing for more options at hand, you should really play those games to understand it better, or read the books :)

Fine, a Hive Democracy, then.

But as Sosseres pointed out, Weber's trilogy was published well before Mass Effect came out.

David Weber is my favorite author, btb.

yet another misunderstanding, but probably also on my side, I did not read weber's trilogy, but the description he made was so familiar with the Geth, and they aren't a hive-like society at all

Sure, I'd like to be a Cyborg, that is to say use cybernetic addon's..... but only if I *had* to.

Just about the only thing I would like to have would be total recall, memory wise. That would be useful in so many ways.
