Help converting mkv and ogm to mpeg while keeping multi audio and srt options

Basically like stated above. I'm new to this and I looked for a bit on the forum but didn't quite get a clear understanding.
I want to convert any mkv or ogm files into mpeg to watch on my dvd player.. but I want the option to choose to watch the movie in English dubbed or to switch it over to Japanese with subtitles. Can anyone explain to me like I'm a 6 year old how this is done?
I don't know anything about converters or what to do and so far I just wasted a couple hours of my time converting my movies with "Total Converter" just to find all my movies are either just in English... or in Japanese with no subtitle option available. I'm studying Japanese so sometimes I like to watch movies in Japanese for practice.. but other times I'll have friends over and I'll set it on English so having both options would be great. Also a lot of the movies I download don't have separate .srt or language files so it's not like I can add them separately after converting.. therefor I'm a bit stumped on what to do.
This isn't for an ipod btw.. but strictly to play on my dvd player which plays DivX, MPEG, etc...Please help

Well, I think you need to be more specific about your problem. You tried to convert your animes to a format compatible with your dvd player, but you can't change the language and the subtitles. Can't you change the language of the files you converted when you play them on your pc or is problem only present on your dvd player? If it's the second case, your dvd player might not support container with multiple audio streams.

btw. I used to do the same thing, but found a more convenient methode. I now stream the video from my pc to the ps3 with a tool called Java PS3 Media Server. If you own a ps3 it might be worth checking out.

"etc" doesn't help.

As far as I know, DivX & MPEG don't support multiple audio tracks. MP4 does, so does MKV and OGM.

My dvd player doesn't support .mkv or ogm so in order to play them... I need to convert them to a format it can read... such as avi or mpeg.
I just downloaded the movie "Spirited Away" from thepiratebay and it came as an avi file with a bunch of separate .srt files as well... so I had no problem burning that movie and playing it on my dvd player. When I watch that movie on my dvd player... i have the option to change the movie to English.. Japanese with subtitles.. or in French with subtitles.
Some of the torrents I've downloaded off of Bakabt.. they've come in mkv or ogm format which I can play with VLC Player no problem with the capability to change the language or subtitles while watching.... but unfortunately I can't just burn them as is to watch on my dvd player so i need to convert them... but when I convert them.. I lose subtitles and whatever other language the movie comes in. The movies also aren't hard subbed so the subtitles vanish if it's automatically converted to a different language... and I can't choose the options when I play the new format on VLC Player

... Do you get what I'm saying?
