John Carpenter's version of The Thing? That's probably my favorite horror movie of all time. That movie is still freaky as hell.

it even had a great ending, good luck finding that these days. it was gross and scary without plain gore and dismemberment like Saw.
(click to show/hide)the part where the dog's head peels like a banana and the skull falls out and the tongue flops all around is one of my fav scenes in that movie.

Personally, I gotta go for the classic scene, when (click to show/hide)the one guy's head disconnects from his body, sprouts spider legs, and skitters off.
That, and when (click to show/hide)the thing's face splits in half, and he grabs another guy by the head and slings him around the room.
That scene seriously freaked me the hell out when I was a kid.

yup, you would never expect this kind of stuff then, now, it's all the same pretty much, not much invention, lack of really scary stuff, no wonder I still think Alien movies are one of the better ones, so simply made, with such a great effect, not so much scary, but shows how good simple effects can be impressive, my sister didn't finish any Alien movie as well lol :)
the new CGs are actually making the movies less scary, i love some of the Japanese horror movies though, not much CGs, a lot of acting, and props, some scenes can be really scary :)
