Author Topic: MKV compatable DVD Player BS (Read 2205 times)

I just went to future shop and purchased an LG Blu Ray player (model BD555C) which supports DivX and MKV formats.. but when I insert any mkv movie in.. it won't play. WTF?! Has anyone had this problem? Or is there a special way I'm supposed to burn mkv files onto a dvd?

If nobody has an answer... does anyone know how I can convert mkv to mpeg or avi without having the subtitles disappearing? As well as which language I want the movie set on?

The video specs must be compatible.
AVC level, ref frames, etc........

Check exactly what format your player is looking for, which should be in the instructions. Then make it (your file) the same

Well I got the movie to play... but I had to re convert the mkv file to a mkv file again which makes no sense but it ends up working on my dvd player. The one thing that is puzzling me though... when I try converting any of Bakabt's movies.... where the hell are the sub files? The movies I'm getting aren't hard subbed but they also don't come with any srt file... so how do I add subtitles when choosing to burn to disc? As well as how do I change the language options?

So everything is in that file, including the subtitles. The application you use to convert the source should handle the subtitle transport as well.

Well the program I use to play movies on my laptop is VLC Player... but I really don't know any programs that are helping me when it comes down to burning onto a dvd. So far I only have "Total Video Converter" and "DVDFlick" ... The real issue I really need explained to me is..... the anime I download can be played in either English... or in Japanese with the option for subtitles when I play with VLC... but whenever I burn the dvd using say... "nero" ... I'll only have the movie playing in either English... or Japanese.. (not both.. and I can't choose which language I want to have burned) .... as well there's absolutely no subtitles attached when I play on my dvd player

Every converter I've seen so far requires you to extract the subtitles before converting. You can use MKV Extract to do this: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/MKVExtractGUI
(MKV Extract will need mkvtoolnix which can be found here: http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/downloads.html#windows).
After extracting the subtitles you will get a .srt, .ass, etc file which you can use in the converter.

Hey I used that program but I never got an .srt file out of it.. it did however give me an option to choose what language I want. I don't know if there's something I'm doing wrong.. but so far that program took me one step closer for sure so thank you for that... now just need help with obtaining the main issue... sub file

Subtitles don't need to be in srt format. Use MKVExtract and look out for any of this file types: .srt .sub .ssa .ass

Okay I'm getting super frustrated... I downloaded MKVExtract.... Downloaded mkvtoolnix...
they're in the same folder... I open mkvextractgui... go to insert.. choose my mkv video... then a pop up comes on saying error creating chilg process.
I don't fucken understand wtf I'm supposed to do... I've been sitting here for about 10 hours trying to figure this shit out by myself downloaded about 7 different programs... I just need to know stop by stop what the fuck I need to do because this shit is getting to the point where I wanna smash my laptop

Okay it was a corrupt file I think cause I re downloaded it and it works fine.. phew... so I got the subtitles hard subbed in... but how do I change the language to the second language option which is Japanese? I have hard subs on top of english audio =s

I've been using ConvertXToDVD and it's pretty awesome. Takes longer but in the end you pretty much have a regular dvd with all the subtitle and audio options still available on dvd

PSPVC. It fully supports MKV and attached subs. It'll probably make things a lot easier.

Wouldn't it be easier just to connect your laptop/pc to your TV with a cabel?

That way you can cut out the middle man(DVD player).

Yes this is true.. but I like having a collection on dvd... also... I'm always on my laptop so it wouldn't work out. Then there's the remote feature which can be annoying if I'm laying in bed and don't want a keyboard and mouse beside me.... On top of all that.. I've had experiences in the past where my computer got infected and I either lost all my important data.... or I've had like well over a hundred Gb of data which is just such a pain in the ass to back up at that point

1. You can still put the files/movies down on a DVD, and you won't need to re-encode it.( Just put the DVD in the laptop instead of DVD player, when you want to watch it.)

4. I have never experienced infection/virus/trojan/mall-ware, but that is why you burned the files to DVD's
or you can backup with a HDD (that is what I use, got a backup on 1,4 TB so far)

But if you want to use a DVD Player to it watch from, you can do that too, but it's just more time consuming and difficulties in it.
