Personally, I think they should do the arena thing as a standalone as well. That way, people will not bother with playing the game if all they want is the PVP arena. It would be a good thing if you had to do some stuff and get gear by ranking up in the arena, just having the basic gear at start and allowing for modifications as you rank in the PVP games.

I liked how in Guild Wars they had PvE or PvP options right in character creation.  If I just wanted to start PvPing bam, theres my character max level ready to go and do what I want to do right away.  No PvE'ing to be able to enjoy what I want to do.

I do have faith in Blizzard, whatever way they handle this im sure it will be satisfactory for sure

You know, the yhave this story and plot to put into the game, so you can't do it with just PVP, you actually need PVE to make it work.

Otherwise, just make a Diablo Arena game and problem solved.

Yeah, and a good majority of WoW's players thought that exact thing. ;)

If you really didn't like the heavy focus on PvE in D2... uhhh... why did you play it? Anyways, I now understand why you come swooping in with comments about how PvP is always king. :P

I would tend to agree with you, but there are dedicated multiplayer games that scratch my itch for killing other people's virtual characters. Diablo 2 (And Diablo 3's) PvP is a sidethought to break up the gear grinding (IMHO, so don't go off on a rant saying I'm wrong).

there was next to zero focus on PVE in diablo 2
because really you beat the game so quick it didnt matter unless you were soloing everything.
Once you beat hell it was hellcows to 99 and get gear for pvp the entire rest of the time you had the game

Unlike wow which a pve based game that has a pvp arena. When they release new content its new pve content.

WoW = pve for its base
Diablo2 = PVP

And i understand the need for the existence of pve just not the need to put any kind of focus into it. Make ti a fun story with a couple of quests to move the story and go

I have to agree with mgz, Diablo 2 was about pvp.  It was 30% grinding for gear (to use in pvp), 50% powerlvling to reach dueling level (Honestly, how many times did you actually clear act 3 legit?), 10% people actually doing PvE for the sake of PvE, and 10% PvP, what everyone was working towards.

Isn't it exactly what they are doing ?
Except for butchering Diablo Franchise ?

The story needs to be told properly or people will rage, and they will rage with everything these days.
Problem is how they plan on solving the PVP issue. Should the entire game become a battlefield for PVP or just allow players to use their characters in a separate PVP arena system ?

toggling your pvp status in town worked great in d2 IMO

Accidentally killing your partner with an AoE spell in Diablo 1 was hilarious, though. The other guy was some 3 screens away and then "goddamn chain lightning!".

Question & Answers. The interesting ones:

Please dont say also no duels on release? I already wondered why there are not in the beta?
You can only duel in the arena... soooo...

Will matchmaking try to pair players of similar gear together?
similar skill ranking, which is affected by both play skill and gear.

Can you tell us more about the Nephalem Valor? Visible, invisible stat? Achievement stat for every map, bosses or not?

We're working on gathering up details and writing up a nice post about it, since it's pretty cool.

Hey man, just wanted to say I got the BETA a few days ago, I love your game to death. Just 1 Q, will there be class intros?
yes, each class has an intro in the 2D animated style that appears in the intro cinematic we released.

There are also Diablo 3 pictures from GDC. Check them out.

If I learned one thing from Blizzard games where they said something is pretty cool, it was something that in the end was pretty lame, frustrating, and broken.

I prefer to remain skeptical on this one. That way I won't be as much disappointed, and probably can only be impressed.

I hope I won't need to facepalm when I see it in action though.

Source.

Hi Jay, can you name one extremely deadly monster attribute combination on an Inferno rare mob or champion pack? Thanks!
fought a vortex/Waller/illusionist/molten combo today that kicked a lot of ass.

... Sounds complex, could be deadly.

More! I'm so damn intrigued by that monster affix combo you posted...is 4 a standard for inferno?
yes. The number of affixes on rares and champs steadily increases at higher levels.

I'm thinking about up to 8ish affixes. Also, this makes me not wanting to play Hardcore anymore ... :P

Edit -- Hey, I wanted to ask if guys are working on "FPS drop" problem? Are you gonna try to fix it in beta? Greetings from Poland!
We're doing stress testing on the servers which is what is causing that. It should not be there in release.

Good, very good. I was having stutters here and there even with the lowest graphics turned on. It was weird, the stutters didn't change at all.

Good news. Normal Difficulty was bumped up in difficulty. Monsters have more HP and attack harder - you gotta play smart. Most monsters attack in packs - melee will charge, ranged will shoot from behind them. Champions + Elites AI are smarter (fucking bastards are a pain sometimes, I'll explain in the next paragraph). Gold was increased - in compensation for that, every-freaking-thing is expensive. It used to be easy to level up your Blacksmith with just 250-500-750 gold. Now, from the get-go, it costs 2K+ JUST to unlock the first 1/5th or 1/7th of the first perk. You are able to craft 2 to 3 items until you hit the max level for that perk which gives you more goodies. Unlocking stashes' gold price were increased as well. Crafting items were re-assembled - they cost more gold and crafting material(s) depending on the type of piece, rarity, and level of the item. Uh ... I don't know if I'm missing anything ... Ah yes. Drop rate for items isn't very wild like it used to be (lots of blue items and few yellow items used to drop, patch 15 doesn't drop a lot of blues and I've yet to encounter one yellow item ...).

So about Elities and Champions - so far every Champion pack I meet have an increased running speed and try to surround you very quickly. Best way is to CC (crowd control) them with stuns, fears, knockbacks, etc. and to use heavy attacks and defensive against them. Elities, on the other hand, have a very large health pool and their attacks do a lot of damage. They tend to have their minions go in first and usually they attack from behind (their melee attacks have a larger yard range since they're bigger). Sometimes, they'll use other non-minion packs to back them up. I had to fight this Elite in a narrow hallway. Whenever I kill off some non-minion packs or his minions, he quickly walks backward to get behind more enemies. When I cornered him and killed him, I had 30-40% of my health and few packs hitting me from the sides/behind. This is so far based on their aggression and type-of-play model.

I've also encountered some new side-quests which were interesting. The game is more pleasing now.

Just my 2 cents to this recent ranting...

For quality PvP and meaningfull PvE... Find different company than Blizzard.
...
Yep. That's about it.
