By extension, Google vs Apple.
I'm on Google's side by the way.

I kind of got sidetracked, sorry. If we go back to the Android vs iPhone subject, I think I've decided that my next phone will be one with Android. After all, you shouldn't say too much about the opposite side before you've tried one yourself. When I bought my iPhone 3G (the one I still use), it was basically the only modern smartphone on the market. Apple was about to revolutionize the market, and no Android was in sight. Had it been today, and I had known all I do know today, I probably would've chosen an Android from start. I'll get an iPod Touch for the things I'll miss from my iPhone. Which Android-phone would you recommend for me if I were to buy one within the next three months?
EDIT: I like phones that I can use for a few years, rather than replace very often. I'm prepared to pay a lot as long as I feel that it's worth it. It feels a bit embarrassing to say (because it makes me sound rich, which I'm not), but to simplify: I basically want the best I can get right now.
Southrop:
One of the more recent ones, I guess? Samsung Galaxy S, Sony Ericsson X10/X10 Mini, HTC Desire/Desire HD, etc. HTC phones, especially the more recent ones (earliest models had a few issues, but they have since been addressed in later handsets), are generally very good. HTC works very closely with Google (Google's Nexus One is HTC-made) on these handsets, and so they function very smoothly. I haven't actually tried the Galaxy S, but from what I've seen from my friend (she has it), Samsung has not changed the Android system as much as Sony Ericsson did with the X10 Mini.

This is the smart answer. The only time I ardently dislike apple is when I run into a completely elitist fanboy, who believes that only stuff with a shiny fruit on it is worth buying.
In general good products, but like Southrop, I don't like several company policies, and I hate elitism.
If anything but Verizon, find a Galaxy S, if Verizon, go Droid X. I can't really say outside the us though.

im more the opposite of you guys then. I absolutely hate those goofy white products. They are kinda OK looking IMO but their lack of functionality compared to similar products in their price range has always made me hate apple.
As a company however they are a fucking amazing company that rakes in cash fist over fist and i would invest in them any chance i could.
