I think it's too know whether or not you are compatible with them or something... I saw in some anime that in Japan the blood type can be used to determine your ideal partner or something, sort of like the zodiac/horoscope/whatever.

It's funny actually, just started to watch "Hayate no Gotoku!!" (double ! same as the 2nd season of K-On! lol) and any time a character showed up for the first time in the first few episodes, a 'mini bio' showed up with name, age, ect.
