Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
« on: November 13, 2010, 03:33:41 PM »
Just wanted to let everyone know this movie is one of my favorite movies out at the moment! It wasn't very successful in the box office but If you like Video games rock type music and action movies with pretty graphics and unique art style this movie will be perfect. But this Post is for people who want to dicuss the movie so if you seen it post your thoughts.

It looked lousy, but then I say the same for most modern films. Film's have been made for entertainment for about 90 years, so quite frankly I still have a lot to catch up on.

but If you like Video games rock type music and action movies with pretty graphics and unique art style this movie will be perfect.

Sorry, but no. Perfection was achieved here :P

Forget the movie, the books are 10x better.

If you like manga, too, I'd highly recommend the books, they're done in the manga-esque black and white style.

My avatar is from Scott Pilgrim.

The "manga" is a lot better than the movies.

Movie is cut up so differently at times.

I loved the movie. I wasn't sure if I would but it completely blew me away, so much in fact I kinda regret not reading the comics first... they have definitely made my must read list... which is growing out of control

Also, there's a typo in the thread title.

I liked the movie a lot, it was pretty crazy but I think it managed to pull it off. If your looking for something fun and surreal but with a bit of depth as well, which we were at the time of watching, then its perfect.

Sorry, but no. Perfection was achieved here :P

+1 one of the best movies ever

Although its so different to scott pilgrim, there's plenty of room for both of them  :)

I just watched the movie after having read the comic/manga and well.... I was kinda dissapointed to be honest....

There's just so much in the books that was left out of the movie and some things that did make it into the movie were changed a lot! So anyway... I'd recommend everyone to just read the books and only watch the movie if you really really really want to... or something.

I liked the movie, but they made some odd design choices.  They took out some awesome things (like the robot fights at the parties) and kept things in that make no sense without further elaboration (Nega Scott).

What's worse is they kept out like the most important theme throughout the 6 books, an unreliable narrator and the primary lesson that should have been taken from the books; don't try to forget your mistakes, learn from them.

Also, they TOTALLY underdeveloped Scott and Ramona's relationship, in the movie they were barely a couple but in the books they were living together by the time the final fight with Gideon happened.

Also, WHERE'S MY X-SLASH FINISHER!?!?!

i gotta say the movie was entertaining and kept true to the books, till book 3 then it seems like they rushed it a bit. Bit again i still ebjoyed the movie, made me and my friends laugh...

Just saw this movie last night.  I'm not really into manga, so I knew practically nothing about the source material going into it.  I have to say, the movie was a lot of fun, and there were some good laughs. It struck me a few times that it was kind of like watching an Americanized live action version of Ranma.  I enjoyed the mixture of anime & video game tropes with American pop culture references.

To those who haven't read the manga, I say, the movie is good, light fun, and if you're looking for something over-the-top with a fairly unique style (for a Hollywood movie), then it's worth watching.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

I went and saw this movie shortly after it was released in theaters. I have not read the graphic novel so I can't judge it on how true it was to the original story.

I did not enjoy this movie. Michael Cera played the part of yet another awkward teenager. Most of the time I was pretty bored and at one point contemplating taking a nap through the rest of the film.

The music was mediocre at best. Maybe it was just that the sex bob-bombs seemed to only have one overly-repetitive song that was played again and again and again. A little more variety would have been nice.

The movie wasn't completely bad. The gay room mate and the vegan superman were pretty hilarious, in my opinion, but other characters, especially the protagonist, seemed to be lacking. I guess the main reason I was bored with this movie was that I could not empathize with the protagonist at all, and therefore didn't have a decent way to relate to the story. Some of the video game references were pretty cool, but in the end, references do not make a movie worth watching.

You should definitely give the "manga" a shot.  It elaborates a LOT more on the main character, Scott.  Also, the plot makes more sense, since by the time Scott is going up against Gideon, he's living with Ramona, and he's not barely-dating her like in the movie.

There's a lot more humor opportunities with the various characters, as well.

Well we will see if anyone is still interested in this topic.

I've seen this movie a couple times. The first time was in SD and it looked amazing. So I decided to grab a Blu-Ray copy and it looked AMAZING!!!!! lol
I thought this was a great movie all around. The character's were good. They picked good actors to portray the character's from the graphic novel.
Which is always a plus. Not to mention the gal who player Ramona has a NICE ASS! lol

I've always player the game on PSN and it's dope! One of my favorite games that has come out in the last couple of year's. If you haven't read the
graphic novel I suggest you do it! It's better than the movie. Though as one could note from this post, I really enjoyed the movie. I especially love
the music in this. As a musicians I really appreciate it because the graphics used with the music really made it jammable even though it was only on
a screen.

One of my favorite scenes was when Scott was going up against the Twins. The dragon those two produced was AWEOMSE!!! :D
