.
My cousin loves his AK-47.  He chose it specifically for its durability & reliability.  He hunts bear and boar with it and wanted something that works every single time he pulls the trigger, no matter what the circumstances are.

I've enjoyed shooting that gun a bit, too.  It's a pretty modern build, probably between ~1995 and 2001.  A bit heavy for a hunting rifle, but I agree that there are very few hunting rifles I'd rather have if I was hunting what he hunts.  Those critters are pretty good at hunting you if you aren't careful.

He's modified the gun a bit, tightened it up in a few places and it chambers just about perfectly.  He has half a dozen 30-round clips and a few more 10- and 5-round clips (to comply with target range and hunting regulations), after several years of use, he's made several small adjustments and modifications so they fit snug and perfect.  He reset the barrel after re-turning the fittings.  I think he might have also rebored the chamber for the shell so it fits precisely; it's the sort of thing he does.

Agreed, the scope is a not needed, but we're both old enough that our eyes aren't so perfect as they once were.  It's real nice to have.

I can tell you this: the way it's currently configured, we both shot 12 oz. beer cans at ~150 meters and I don't think either of us missed more than about twice out of 30 or more rounds each.  Anyway, this weapon is not intended for use at more than about 50-100 meters (usually); it's just nice that it performs so well out into the 150 range.  More than good enough for government work.   ;)

One other factor to keep in mind:  he doesn't shoot military standard rounds through it, usually.  All his are hand reloads or brand name production for the U.S. target and hunting market.  These rounds are far more consistent and high quality than the standard bulk military production.  It makes quite a difference in precision.

I'm not into these things like I used to be.  But, if I were, I'd sure love to have this one.
I win, once again, in my never-ending struggle against victory.

I'm pretty sure OP never mentioned that he was the target.
Maybe he was shooting cans under the bridge?

OP mentioned bullets whistling by.

The AK is designed between 50 to 300m actually. And as a military weapon it does work that far. Accuracy isn't that important with enough people shooting and even missed shots cause people to duck and cover so it's enough. And the target are the size of a man so it's not so important if it doesn't shoot exactly accuractely.

Heavy? AK is light. It's around 4 kilos.
Any weapon that chambers with gas force won't chamber perfectly. That's just the way it is.
Good idea at resetting the barrel. The military setup for 50m/150m arc is pretty bad for hunting.
Agreed with the rounds. Military bulks are shitty.

If I went bear hunting and especially if I went boar hunting I wouldn't pick an AK for sure.(Well, full auto I would.) I'd go with heavier rounds. While it is a heavy round compared to modern assault rifles it's quite light compared to your regular hunting rifles due to it's shortness. Stopping power isn't that great compared to usual rifle calipers. Does wonders to bulletproof vests compared to the smaller assault rifle calibers though.

PS. My AK-47s were the Finnish remodelation(a few betterments, better sights, lighter build(no wood), some changes to the blast picture but no changes to mechanics except the lock spike has been changed to round in later models), that the Israeli copied later to their own assault rifle. (Not something you'd first think about, Israelis using AKs.) First one was 67 but it was in magnificent condition. Another was 89 but it wasn't nearly in such a a good condition. The chamber had corroded and the mouth of the barrel was dmaged by some previous jerk.

Because we can!

At first I was going to say that it was illegal, but to my surprise, gun ownership is legal in Norway.  It's amazing that such a low crime rate can be achieved.

This should definitely be reported, that man could me mentally unstable and could go shoot up a school.

i would do this in this particular order

1. duck
2. say "holy shit'
3. get up and run
Yes haha, i've been thinking about this for a while. I have no idea why i didnt run
as fast as i could... i guess i was just so shocked and confused...

EDIT: I think one of the reason he didnt hit me those 3 shots was because it was
in the middle of the night and i was wearing all black clothing including a black hoodie
and maybe its hard to hit someone close range with a sniper <--I've no experience with this one lol

Depends whether it's a sniper or just a rifle.  Did you get a really good look at his weapon?

Wearing black isn't actually that good way to hide at night. You're better off wearing something that's similar colour to the enviroment or if you just have to wear something that fits the darkness itself dark blue is the way to go.

No, it's not hard to hit someone with a rifle if he's close. Most hunters here use 8x scope and they shoot usually under 50m.

@tomoya: You're canadian, right? Gun ownerships is legal in Canada you know?

Jusr as a random side note, In Utah (USA) you can carry any weapon with out and licenses as long as it is visible.

My uncles drives around with 3 loaded rifles mounted to his back window in his truck.
He one of those crazy people that think the government is out to get everyone and so he has stock piled over 100 weapons, and countless rounds of ammunition.

SO if zombies ever do strike, I know where I can go and be safe :D
