What client can I use?
« on: November 24, 2010, 05:43:42 AM »
I've never really had this problem before and I've been using torrents for about four years. So, here's what happened...

I bought an old Mac computer. It runs Mac OSX 10.3, and a lot of the recommended clients I've looked at for the site say they don't work with my computer. I either get the corrupted image message (which means that it's not backwards compatible and I need a newer operating system) or something else. I was able to get Transmission 0.6 working, but that isn't allowed on the site.

After buying a computer, I really don't feel like paying for a whole new operating system so I'm wondering if there's a client I can use or maybe something that I missed...like a program that will make the new stuff compatible with the old system I have? I don't know, I'm confuzzled.

Download and install the latest Java, and then download Vuze.
That should always work, since Vuze uses Java.

Java and Vuze...?

I hope those aren't my only options.

Try any client on this list: http://bakabt.me/whitelist.php

We generally recommend using uTorrent. I don't know if it'll run on your version of Mac though. It's worth a try.

Another alternative you can try is installing Ubuntu/Linux to use instead of OS X

I definitely don't recommend that choice because OP is using an old Mac. It may work, but the end result would be basically no torrenting because the system would slow to a crawl.

Especially since it looks like you just got this computer, and shouldn't have many files on it yet, doing the above would be a great idea.

Okay, thanks. I hadn't thought of installing another operating system. That's a good idea. :)
