Black Friday 2010
« on: November 26, 2010, 02:45:59 PM »
I have to say this year's sales were a bit disappointing compared to last, but nevertheless there were some exceptional deals.

I went to Wal-Mart at 5AM (which is when it opened) and I got:

Two 500GB WD portable hard drives for $40 each
42" Emerson LCD HDTV thang for $400

So where did you all go and what did you get?

I went to Walmart and rubbed magnets all over the 500GB WD portable hard drives :P

But in all seriousness, I picked up a backwards compatible PS3 from a local game store for 200USD (usually go for 349USD)

My roommate tipped me off to a good deal -- I picked up the entire Babylon 5 series plus the 5 movies on dvd for $140 brand new.  Sticker price worked out to $22 per box set.  Pretty happy with that; I've been wanting to pick up that series on dvd for a long time.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

They're all online. But I concur, many of them suck. Our true deals moreso hit on boxing day.

No idea what this Black Friday is exactly, but it sounds like something I wouldn't mind having it here in the netherlands :P

There was Black Friday at S4 League, the clothes were good but needed premium coins to buy them. Discounts were premium only ( = =)m. The only thing good was the new map. Lol at vent.
Did you know Satan was supposedly gods RIGHT HAND MAN, not his left. Blows your theory out of the water now doesn't it.

It is the day after the Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S.  (Thanksgiving is always the 3rd Thursday in November.)  It's traditionally considered to be one of the busiest shopping days of the year, and hence a lot of retailers put up a lot of good and / or crazy deals for that day or for that weekend.  "Cyber Monday" is the first Monday after Thanksgiving, and supposedly the day when the best online deals are to be found.

Quote
The day's name originated in Philadelphia, where it originally was used to describe the heavy and disruptive pedestrian and vehicle traffic which would occur on the day after Thanksgiving. Use of the term began by 1966 and began to see broader use outside Philadelphia around 1975. Later an alternative explanation began to be offered: that "Black Friday" indicates the period during which retailers are turning a profit, or "in the black."

Come on, Tomoya, is it really that hard to Google something?

Oh, yes. Steam got some good offers on the last day. I got DIRT2, Metro 2033 and Knights of the Old Republic for about 14 euros. I was hoping Modern Warfare 2 would be on sale since (Cyber) Monday is supposed to be the cheapest day.

Still 18 hours left if anyone is interested.

My wife went out and bought a Dyson for near 50% off... it was like $240 instead of $450 or however expensive they normally are. Our floors are super clean now.
