new xbox cases
« on: November 28, 2010, 02:44:16 AM »
Anyone notice the new packaging for xbox 360 disks? I cant stand these things! They are cheap as hell. I think they're claiming they're more 'green' but lets be honest, theyre just trying to save a couple bucks on packaging. I havent got one yet but a buddy of mine had one on a new game he got. Basically the entire middle is missing and thers a few cheap stips holding the middle in place.

THese SUCK. They are friggin flimsy as hell. If im blowing 60 bucks on a game i think they can spend the extra 2 cents on a sturdy friggin package. I forsee some serious problems with games being damaged in shipping, and games getting dust and grime on the disk because theres a hole in the packaging. Not to mention i can see it putting a ring on the cover art over time. As a collector i am not happy about this garbage at all. Does anyone know if this is the flat out new standard? I did a search and saw a lot of people pissed about it as well. Suposedly PS3 is planning on maybe going this route too! Hell, i wonder who i could contact at Microsoft to compain about this, or sony to request they do NOT follow this terrible example

I was just wondering if anyone else was as pissed about this new cheapo packaging as I was. Honestly, i can kinda see them doing it with some cheap DVD's but on a 60 dollar game this is just absurd.

@ NaRu. Theyre in talks with sony right now to do the same thing to PS3 >_< If sony doesn't do it then i think im shifting most of my purchasing over to them instead of 360

no its not a chunk of plastic. If it was a chunk of plastic id be happy. Its a cut up skinny piece of perforated plastic taht wont hold up for crap down the line. I guess if you dont collect games, and just buy used junk at Gamestop all the time you wont care. Its bs and just terrible for any kind of collector. Plus were shelling out 60 bucks for these things. Youd think they could spring for the extra 2 cents worth of plastic. I was browsing the forum while reading up on it and decided to just vent and bring it to anyones attention who didn't know yet

http://www.destructoid.com/microsoft-explains-the-rubbish-new-360-game-boxes-156590.phtml

is one of the articles that show them. Its got that giant hole on both sides, so the disk is totally exposed. Plus dust and dirt can get trapped in there. Its gonna really suck trying to find used games down the road with these boxes. I dont see them lasting in the long run at all.

I've seen DVD cases like that for a while now. I saw the first one maybe 2 years ago when working in the library. And boy did I hate them, all bendy and soft. They made everything more difficult and I was constantly worried about breaking the case. I hadn't bumped in to one in a while and I was already kind of hoping they were forgotten. I guess not :(

If they really want to save in materials, how about making the case smaller, you know, about the size of the disc itself?

They could just make the cases shorter and more form fitting to the actual disk to save plastic... Like Sony does. As much as i hate Sony i actually like their game cases better.

Replace all those shitty boxes with these.
I recently bought three packages (90 pieces) and replaced all the boxes, which I did not like.
Condition is very good, despite the fact that they used.
In my opinion, this is the best DVD-boxes that I have ever seen 8)

I agree can't stand those cases either.  I have seem them popping up for DVD's for a while now.   Now they are invading the game market too :(.

Just remember,  before you criticize someone, walk a mile in there shoes.  That way you are a mile away and have their shoes. :P

I personally like the new case, but i see the point of the old being used, Lik the PS1, their cases, though flimsy, were small for the disc, and the booklet for the game followed suit even for the long and endless games..i wish they went back to those but sturdier :(  :(  :'( 8)

As shitty as those cases are, they're not THAT shitty. Buying a game in a paper envelope... now that'll be the day.

For reals. I've got a few of these cases with some PC games, and they're miles better than the stupid double wide cardboard boxes with disc floating around in a paper sleeve that they used to use.

anyone remember the Lost odysey case? WTF was that shit. Like 4 disks packed into a cardboard sleeve, stuffed with another disk on a regular single disk case. That was retarded

Ya, as some of you mentioned, I guess this started with some DVD cases like this. The problem with that is that DVD's are cheap. If im paying 60 friggin dollars for a game they damn well can provide a good sturdy case for it! Those alternatives Van posted dont work at all for me. I want a sturdy, green Xbox case. Like the old ones we had. There was a variety of different types of those as well, ranging from great to absolutely HORRIBLE. Anyone here ever get the shitty ones with a solid unmovable hunk of plastic in the middle? those were SHIT. I broke my tales of vesperia DVD on that! Im talking about the one on the top right of the picture a few posts down HERE Those are the only cases i would not choose over these shitty new ones

jeeze. Im surprised at the PC comments. Are they still putting pc games in cardboard sleeves floating around in boxes? I havent bought a PC game in ages.. early 2000's i think. I really thought they would have stoped that by now. Even so, they have sorta an excuse. At least pc games dont cost 60 bucks!

honestly i really cant believe theyre just getting away with this. Where the hell can people complain? I could go over to the xbox forums and bitch but im sure that wont do anything. I gotta find a feedback email addy or something to let them know this sucks. I know it probably wont change anything but if people dont say anything at all then they'll think its fine. I really need to find the contact info for sony/ps3, since i hear the shitty company that makes these is in talks with them to do the same thing >_<

First 360, then Wii, and now probably PS3. This just flat out sucks. I will NEVER pay 60 bucks for a game in these cases. Plus, now i gotta find a good set of replacement cases for future purchases. Maybe i should buy old copies of madden on ebay and throw the disks away =P

I don't think it's going to happen. Especially not with the newer compressed AND smaller cases they current use for the blu rays.

To a certain extent, I still wonder why the DVD case is so big in comparison to a CD case. Was there a specific reason for that? Like, is there a reason why (Besides booklets) that there needs to be a good inch or so above and below the disc?

so it is easier to tell the difference between CD and DVD. The same thing with Blu-Ray.
