I p much only have seen a few people ever get a real ban and they were either racists assholes, or... well well yea, racist assholes. Ive actually tried a few times and never netted more then a week or two.

(aside from ratio cheaters and stuff, obv)

He did, he made 9 posts in a row to get a ban, or something like that.

Anyways, OVA01 Is out, grab it while it warm and fuzzy.

It's not super hilarious or anything, and I watched it while drunk and sleepy and not sleeping for last 34 hours so my cognition and understanding of reading was so-so (I actually understood the Japanese language O_O)

but I had utmost fun watching it :)

Well i'll try to get it as soon as i can... :)
And if you are amazed that you could understand Japanese Language after 20 years of Anime watching then perhaps it'll take me some time to have a respectable grasp of it :P

I know Japanese fairly well, just can't read Kanji, I have generally a solid idea what things are said, I can watch RAWs and know enough about shit.

I'm not actually trying to learn Japanese, if I did actually try, I would have known the language long time ago.

I am able to understand a few words that they say so i can make up a few sentences which are correct to an extent.
I just watch anime and no other efforts like trying to read Kanji or Kana...
So what do you think how much time will it take me to be at your level or even close to it? :P

Depends on commitment, if you work on it wit ha purpose on mind, Japanese is said to be quite easy to learn, if you learn just by the fly, it might take you long years to master the language, if at all. You might actually even fail to learn even 20% if you are just learning because you hear it without any commitment to it.

By commitment do you mean retaining stuff?
I watch 3-4 episodes of anime a day and I try to grasp any word I can from them. Sometimes when I am free I watch a episode which I haven't watched before without the subs.
Is this commitment?

Commitment in my opinion is picking up every damned detail you can find, which is why I can always point out things others don't notice, two or three days ago i changed Noda's mind about Air ending, she, like many others didn't notice something easily missed. I have "Anime Plot Theory Advancement Weaving" skill level 64, most of the time my predictions are spot on, When i watch anime, I try to notice everything that happens in the episode/movie, sometimes I watch an episode twice, i often go back a few scenes or to the scene before to make sure I seen things right.

I love Anime as a fan, I'm not obsessed with it, well, saying that in the fan club to a specific Squid Girl i made and announced proudly of being obsessed with Ika Musume is an odd thing, but I can live without Anime, I just don't want to :)

It's like with drinking alcohol, some people say I have a drinking problem, I claim otherwise, i drink quite well :D

Ohhh that is quite dense i'd say. No wonder I automatically respect you along with soryon. :)
This might be a little difficult but I may give it a try. I have never been as good as you are in noticing details but yes if I try I may be able to do it.

Yes and same is the case with me... I can stop watching anime but it's just that I don't want to :P

i still think the best way to learn japanese is to sit down and learn the basics from a book or two. i bought a few books and learned tons. i was even able to read up to 300 kanji at some point cuz i practiced writing them carefully. anime can help you retain what you learn, but even i don't think it's the best way to learn from the begining.

Well a newborn learns by listening to words and stuff... not by reading. :)
Try using this logic on us too.

Agreed. You can't learn Japanese by watching anime, it isn't possible. You can pick up vocab (although you will probably not have a 100% accurate understanding of the meaning of a lot of it unless you check in a dictionary, since subs obviously aren't literal), but that's about it. You need to actually study it and work hard to learn it yourself, if you want to reach any level of proficiency.

It's good listening practice if you're actually learning Japanese yourself properly though, and it can help reinforce grammar patterns you've just learnt if you then hear them used in anime and TV. But you cannot learn Japanese from just watching anime.

Well a newborn learns by listening to words and stuff... not by reading. :)
Try using this logic on us too.

Watching TV in another language and actually being properly immersed in it are two very different things. It's quite possible to learn a language by yourself if you move to a foreign country where nobody speaks anything else, much like children pick up their native language. But you don't get that level of immersion, or anything close to it, from watching TV.

excuse me, but i know u CAN read. you won't learn anything if you think you can learn it all by ear. a lot of it IS about commitment. and isn't there already a 'learn japanese' thread? maybe there are tutorials on youtube to get you started if you don't want to put in too much effort.
