Anime that I have to watch. - now my anime review thread!

<< < (50/130) > >>

Havoc10K:
I'm not reading the manga but supposedly it's quite ahead, I don't bother myself with echii, it's part of the show so I accept it, even if the ass is the only thing that the screen shows atm, but yeah, I want more of this show soonish, there is an OVA planned I believe, but not sure, I wan't another season :)

Micharus:
Just watched the last episode of "Sasameki Koto", which translates as "Whispered Words".

It's an anime about girls that like girls.

Yes, it's yuri, but it's definitely NOT porn.

Rather it is a very well written, sensitive, sometimes funny, sometimes sad story about a group of girls, revolving around two girls in particular, Sumika and Ushio.

Sumika loves Ushio. This becomes very clear early in the anime, but Sumika has a problem.

Sumika is attractive, intelligent and athletic...... but she is tall, taller in fact than a lot of the boys at her school.
This is a problem because Ushio likes 'cute' girls and tall is not 'cute' in Ushio's mind.
Besides, Sumika is not Ushio's 'type'.

Ushio is unaware that Sumika loves her and only sees Sumika as a very close friend.

As the anime moves along, we see a lot of situations that you would normally get in a boy/girl relationship.... but with two girls.

We also have 'comedy relief' in the form of Akemiya Masaki, a guy who sometimes dresses as a girl and Torioi, a 'normal' girl, that is one of Ushio and Sumika's friends.

The anime is, in general, a 'Slice of Life' anime.
The artwork is well done and the music fits the series very well, being mostly piano and semi-orchestral pieces.

At one point in the early part of the anime, Ushio and Sumika happen to come across two girls in a classroom.
As they stand there watching, the two girls kiss and Ushio and Sumika beat a hasty retreat.
Eventually they meet up with Tomoe and Miyako, a confirmed 'couple' at school.

There is a lot more I could say about this anime, but I won't.

It's a relaxing anime to watch and as I have said, despite it being about girls who like girls, it's not porn in any way shape or form.

There are the obligatory beach and pool episodes, but it's just eye candy and they actually manage to use those two episodes to move the plot around a bit.

This is one of those unexpected gems you find occasionally and the only bad thing I have to say about it, is that the last episode just..... ends.

Sure it leaves room for another season, but the major string left untied is how the relationship between Ushio and Sumika ends up.
Of course they (the people who made the anime) could be leaving it to our imagination.

I think I'm going to have to go and read the manga to find out how it REALLY ends.

Now to watch the Lucky Star OVA.... no, I'm not going to review it.  :P

Al_Sleeper:
It looks like it's quite similar to Kashimashi.

I chose this as my next anime to watch based on about the first 5 minutes of the first episode.
What I saw in that first 5 minutes made the series look like it was going to be an ACTION, blood 'n' thunder anime......

I was wrong.... sort of.

It turned out to be an action/comedy/romance(?).

I guess I should have payed a little extra attention to that "!".
Pretty much any anime I've seen that has "!" at the end of it has been comedy or along that line.

If you are into Nekomimi in any way shape or form, this is for you. There is also a Doggirl ( Jen, Female with floppy dog ears) that is also rather nice.

The basic storyline goes something like this;
Our hero, Kio, meets a girl with cat ears and tail at a memorial service for one of his ancestors.
Unfortunately, he drinks something there makes him pass out.
The next thing he knows, he wakes up in his bed at his Uncles house, sits up and notices a lump in his bed next to him, which he uncovers to find.... the catgirl from the memorial, Elis.
Did I mention Elis is rather well stacked?

From here we find out that not only are Elis's ears and tail, very firmly attached, Elis herself is an alien, from Catia.

From here, we find out many many things.

Elis is on Earth as an observer and data collector. To help her in this job, she has a number of small robots called, 'assistaroids'.

We also discover that two of Kio's school friends, Aoi and Manami and one of his teachers, Maki, are not what they seem.

At one point, we discover that Aio is in love with Kio, but hasn't proceeded past calling him 'Kakazu', his family name.
It seems that Manami, while being Kio's childhood friend, has convinced herself, that she isn't in 'the game' and so sets herself to helping Aoi winning Kio away from Elis, who has her sights set on him as her first 'mate'.

As the anime progresses, we discover that there is another alien on Earth, but this one is from 'Dogisia' and she intent on preventing 'Catia' from opening diplomatic relations with Earth.
It appears that at some point 'Dogisia' did something bad and the Galactic leaders, the "Orsonians"**, beings of pure intelligence, have stated that the 'Dogians' shall not open diplomatic relations with any other race again.

The anime moves along a path where various people try to and on a couple of occasions, succeed in capturing her, but our girl Elis is very capable, plus she has some very determined friends to come to her rescue by this time.

In amongst all this, we meet the crew, including the Captain (Cuune), Doctor (Dyureru) and other ranking officers of the main Starship, that Elis is part of.

The last three episodes are where the action picks up.

The Dogians launch a nefarious 'sneak' attack on the main Catian Starship, causing it to run out of control on a collision course with Earth.
How the good guys manage to sort that out is something you will have to watch the anime to find out.

Suffice to say, it's a 'happily ever after' ending, with a few things left undone. There is room for another season, but to tell the truth I won't be in any great rush to watch it.

** The name may not be correct.

Going to watch 'Sasameki Koto' next, for a change of pace.

edit: I was just wondering how many actually look at this thread..... and then noticed that it has over 6500 views.
I guess that means a lot of people are at least checking the thread to see what is going on in it.  This makes me happy.  :D

Yeah, I have a tendency to miss things that aren't really obvious.
Add to that the fact that I probably don't know some of the 'classic' references you are talking about, so I can't really pick up on them. lol

Then again, sometimes I pick up on things that people seem to miss, so it works out more or less even.

Edit: Watched the Lucky Star OVA. It made me laugh and was just like I remember Lucky Star was. The live action 'Lucky Channel' at the end was kind random, but the girl was *SO* cute!
Watching "Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou"( [Ryuumaru] release) next.
