but is it more or less what I said there ?
I might add this to my list, also can you provide a pic of her with the eyes ?

This is probably the best one I've seen so far, although she doesn't appear dressed in this dress in the anime.

Just had a thought.... I'll see if I can get the screen shot I'm looking for. Sunako is *very* nice looking in it.

Meh, I can't find that one shot where you actually see Sunako standing upright in a dress darn it!

However, there are one or two screenshots I took while looking.

I'll upload and post them after I re-size them a bit.

Well, so far I have watched 12 episodes of Gurren Lagann and I'm wondering why it has taken me this long to get around to watching it.

I'm enjoying this very much and the fact that someone took the time to remove the OP and ED from each and every episode, means that they are just that much shorter, so I'm watching more than my usual four episodes a night.

Still, this anime has 27 episodes to go, so I still have plenty of stuff to watch......but there is going to be a problem writing a review on this.

I won't be able to say much about the anime without giving away key parts of the storyline by the looks of things.

One thing I have noticed is that Youko reminds me a lot of Elsie from 'The World God Only Knows'.

They both wear a scarf, both of them have a skull shaped hairpin and both of them have LONG hair, Youko's being red and Elsie's being black. Love girls with long hair!
Fortunately that's where the similarities end, god help us all if Youko was as much of an air head and Elsie seems to be!

Woo.

Just finished watching Gurren Lagann.

This anime goes into the 'must watch' list.

The word 'EPIC', just does not cut it when describing this anime.

Like I said in my previous post, writing a review on it is going to be difficult, mostly because of the way things happen in the story line.

However, I shall make an attempt anyway, so here we go!

The story starts in an underground village, Jeeha, where 'diggers', men and boys with large hand driven drills expand the village.
One of these boys, Simon, is destined for great things, little does he know.
His friend, Kamina, looks after him and is convinced there is another, better world up there beyond the rock.

Simon, while drilling one day, finds a small drill shaped object and on another occasion finds what he calls 'a giant face'.

One day there is an earthquake and a giant robot, which they later learn are called 'Gunman' falls through the ceiling and starts to destroy the village.

The village elder, who is a basically a bully, runs and hides, while Kamina faces the 'Gunman' alone, using only his wits and the sword that he taken from the village elder.

To his rescue comes a women, swinging down out of the sky. This is Yuoko.

While trying to escape from the 'Gunman', Simon takes them to the 'Giant Face' and they discover it is in fact a small robot, which Kamina calls 'Laggan'.

This is basically where the anime starts to take off.

As you can guess, our hero's survive their encounter with the Gunmen and escape.

In the following episodes they meet new friends who join them on their adventures.

Eventually, Kamina captures a 'Gunmen' and calls that 'Gurren' once it is repaired.

There are many characters who hook up with our hero's, too many to really name. They come and they go, some in fairly spectacular fashion.

Sometime after this, during a massive fight, Kamina decides to try combining 'Lagann' with 'Gurren'...... by ramming 'Lagann' it's drill form into the top of 'Gurren'.
This unexpectedly works and the sight of Kamina reaching up with Gurren's arms to adjust Lagann so that it looking the right way, is a sort of funny moment.

So, that is how 'Gurren Lagann' is born.

Eventually, the day is won, although depending on how you look at it, it's not that great a win.

Episode 16 is a 'compilation episode' or what we would call a 're-cap episode'.

Yes, it appears that Gurren Lagann was in fact meant to be two seasons, or that how it looks to me.
This episode is extremely well done, covering all of the important things that happen in the previous 15 episodes in such a way that you actually enjoy re-learning about things you have recently seen.

Episode 17 open with the caption '7 years later' and shows a thriving city.
In this 'season' of Gurren Lagann, old friends leave, saying they aren't cut out for jobs they have been asked to do, we find people have married, that other people are no longer the friends they once were, enemies become friends over time and that some have grown up to be very cute!

We are also introduced to the 'Anti-Spiral' an enemy who is determined to see humanity exterminated.

Of course our hero's aren't going to put up with that and set out to defeat them.

As per usual, there are more fights, with Gurren Lagann right in the middle of things.

Gurren Lagann manages to get bigger and more powerful with almost every fight and by the end of the proceedings we have robots inside robots inside robots..... which leads to..... VERY large robots!

Eventually it all ends and it's very bitter sweet.

After the first set of credits roll, there is a '20 years after' piece showing how everyone ends up, which ties up a lot loose ends, but left me wishing it could have been different.

All in all, this anime rates very highly with me, I'll probably rate it as an 8, quite possibly a NINE and those are few and far between on my MAL.

Yes, I have left out a LOT of stuff that I might have written about, but what to write without spoiling the storyline?
As it is, I wrote a lot more than I thought I would.
If you haven't seen TTGL, go watch it. NOW. Even if you hate Mecha.  ::)

I plan on watching MM! next.

Yep, that was pointed at you Havoc.

Seriously though, I reckon once you get past the amount of Mecha in this, you will enjoy it quite a bit.

'Ron' is a laugh and Youko is pretty cute for a girl with a very big gun!

As a matter of fact, I finished rewatching TTGL yesterday, and it still is one of my all time favourites, I don't like or dislike mecha, but really the mecha complemented the show ''in over the top'' ness, from Kamina's speeches (''Don't believe in yourself, believe in me who believes in you!'' Makes me smile every time they say that) to mecha comining into mecha combining into mecha to throw galaxies at each other.

All in all an amazing experience (watch doesn't cut it, the show sucks you in)

Are you deaf as well as blind, woman? I'm not a carpet to walk over and I
distinctly heard myself speak. If I pinch your bottom, you can slap my face, but until I do, I expect a civil word for a civil word!

MM! is a pretty funny anime, but at the same time it has both it's sweet moments and slightly dark times as well, although it never gets so bad as to be depressing.

As far as girls go, I think MM! pretty much covers everything.

This anime revolves around a high school club and the people who become members of it.

The main characters are;

Sado Tarou, a guy who became a masochist because of an incident involving being hit by....
Yuuno Arashiko. She also has a problem that......
Isurugi Mio, the president of the club, is helping her with.
Hayama Tatsukichi, Tarou's best friend. He also has a problem that Tarou doesn't know about.
Onigawara Michiru, the school Nurse is keeping an eye on everyone.

The above characters are the ones that appear in every episode, right from the start.

There are other characters that show up during the anime and join the main group.

There are a lot of references to a few anime in this anime.

Mio looks a lot like 'Taiga' from 'Toradora', but at the same time has a similar personality to Haruhi from 'TMoHS', at least that's what I think.
It makes for a very interesting character.
There is also a nod to 'Dragon Ball Z' and 'Sailor Moon'. "Tuxedo Mask" anyone? (yes, I had to look up Tuxedo Mask to get it right. AniDB ftw!)

There is 'boing' but very little pantsu, and that only happens right at the end of the last episode.

The anime starts off something like this;

Tarou has a problem. Ever since an incident with a girl who hit him, he has been a masochist. He enjoys the pain he feels when a GIRL hits him.
Tarou's best friend, Hayama Tatsukichi, knows this and tells him to go to the 'Second Voluntary Club', a club that supposedly fulfils the wishes of students.

When he arrives, he meets not only Mio, but Yuuno, the girl who caused his masochism in the first place.

This is how it all starts, with Mio believing she can 'cure' Tarou of his masochism. How does Mio plan on doing that?
By inflicting large amounts of pain on him of course, and we all know where that is going to end up.

As the anime progresses, we discover that pretty much everyone involved with the club has some sort of 'problem'.
We find out that Yuuno suffers from 'androphobia' (fear of men) and this is the reason why Yuuno hit Tarou and accidentally caused his masochism.
It's probably the darkest the anime ever gets, but in the end, justice is served.

We also discover that Tatsukichi cross dresses and then his problem gets REALLY interesting.
We find that the school Nurse is into taking photo's of girls..... only girls, preferably in some sort of cosplay.

We also meet a girl genius, Hiiragi Noa, who talks in third person all of the time.

There are many many shenanigans along the route to 'curing' Tarou's 'hella masochism', as well as some treatment for the other members of the club, but they focus mostly on trying to help Tarou and Yuuno, which makes for some interesting situations.

Eventually, we end up with the dreaded 'love triangle' situation.

This anime is a good watch, it's pretty good for a laugh too, even if there aren't any real LOL situations.
The ladies are all cute, with the Nurse being 'Tsun' but no 'dere' most the time.

I should mention that Tarou has another problem, but this one is at home. His older, college age sister, Shizuka, and his mother, both love him a lot. Perhaps more than they really should. :o

The last episode is nice, with Mio getting a well deserved reward for her hard work.
There are one or two unresolved issues that weren't solved, so there is plenty of room for another season and I, for one, would really like it to happen. Bring on MM!!

Next up I will watch 'Witchblade'. It's an older anime, but it looks like it will be interesting.

Monster
NEON GENESIS EVANGELION + EoE

just curious, why did you give NHK a 5? What did you dislike about it? I havent met anyone online that would give NHK such a low rating

I've only just gotten into anime compared to some people on this board and there are a heck of a lot of anime out there to watch.
My 'to get' list is darn near as big as the complete list on the OP of this thread and you have just added a few more to it, subject to me checking them out.

As for NHK.... who knows what rating I'm going to give an anime on the day I finish it.
That MAL list gets updated almost as soon as I finish watching an anime, so it's pretty current with what I have watched so far.
You should also note that a lot of the anime on my MAL don't even have a rating at all, it's something that I've only started to do relatively recently.

I like reading Mic's reactions on some of the shows and sometimes point out what he might have not noticed in them to give him a different point of view. And he has to keep adding shows to the list cuz there are just so many shows, and he is a FAN of anime, like me :)

Havoc10k is good at that. If I miss something that is blatantly obvious, he'll tell me about.

That's probably why I picked up the 'Sailor Moon' and 'Dragon Ball Z' references in MM!, if I hadn't spotted them he would have let me know. Keeps me on my toes, but I still don't get them all.

I also noticed that writing a review can be time consuming.
The MM! review took almost an hour, what with referring to AniDB to make sure I get the names right and looking up relevant info for other stuff.

I watched NGE and FLCL a pretty long time back.
I remember I enjoyed both shows, but NGE left me a bit dazed and confused with the final episodes.
It's the only anime I've ever watched where I had to go and research it so I could sort of understand what was going on right at the end.

I don't remember that much about FLCL at all, so I'll probably re-watch it at some point and that is when I'll do a review.

MM! has actually a lot more references but to catch them all you would have to watch really a lot of anime, and I didn't catch all of em myself, only read about them. If I remember right there is even a Dokuro-chan reference :)

Oh man, yeah there sure is a reference to Dokuro-chan..... Mio's weapon of choice is..... a BASEBALL BAT, with a ribbon tied around the handle. From memory the ribbon is pink with lace.

Gack.... another one I missed and I just realized it. Actually it might not be one, but it could be.
Noa, the loli girl genius wears thigh high stockings, striped like Stockings stockings, from 'Panty & Stocking w/ Garterbelt', but hers are striped yellow and white, not blue and white like Stockings stockings are.

I like how new anime is quietly putting references to other older anime in to their work.
It might not be really obvious, like the DBZ and Sailor Moon ones, in MM!, it might be something a simple as a poster on a wall in the background, but a lot of the new anime are doing it these days.

Yeah they are, and some are starting again to do proper advertisements, like CocaCola and Dr.Pepper :)
You probably miss out some references because you either don't know the show it refers to or you just missed a small detail, so as you said, some stuff isn't "In your face" but it's still there, and that is good.

You can only catch all references if you watched all possible anime shows and tha tis hardly possible cuz some are straight out boring.

On another note, time to re-watch "You're Under Arrest!"
it's been waiting in line for a while, but there are obligatory stuff to do before I re-watch anything :)

"You're Under Arrest!" hmmm.

Wonder what your avvy is going to look like? Ika in a police uniform? That could be....interesting.  :D

*goes to look up the afore mentioned anime.

EDIT: Ok...... I am now getting  pretty much every YUA related anime on BakaBT. That's a *LOT* of anime.
I don't plan on watching it all in one go, all up there is around 100 episodes over three seasons, plus some OVA, plus the 'mini specials' and a MOVIE!
I can see myself watching the first season, then watching something completely unrelated, then watching the second season and so on.

It had better be pretty good, the movie is just over 11gb.

Witchblade is looking good too right now. I've just watched episode 4.

It's dubbed and the default is English, with subs for the OP and ED, but the good thing is that it's dual audio, so I can watch it in Japanese with English subs.

The bad thing is, even though I can get the episodes to default to Japanese, I can't work out how to have the English subs come on by default, but that's just a niggle really.
The other things is..... the subs suck. They seem to be pretty accurate word wise, but they are chunky and blocky, like the lettering you used to get in the old 16 bit arcade games.
They are quite readable though.

The lead character is quite cute when she is in 'mommy' mode and her 6 year old daughter almost defines the word cute, as in 'awww cute'. She's adorable.
