Anime that I have to watch. - now my anime review thread!
Micharus:
Ok, review time again.
This time it's the second season of Minami ke, "Minamin-ke: Okawari".
Basically, see the review for season one!
This time around our girls get a new next door neighbor, called Fuyuki.
He ends up going to the same school as Chiaki.
The usual suspects from last season are also back again, so we have a guy dressed as a girl, Makoto/Mako-chan (Haruka and Chiaki still have no idea) and a girl dressed as a guy, Touma and of course the 'father figure', Fujioka.
Episode 8 is the 'lets go to the pool episode', lots of yummy 'fanservice' for the guys. Haruka spends most of the episode asleep on a sun lounge. Her 'sleeping face' is so cute. :D
Also, once again, Haruka's senpai from her school, Hayami appears with 'juice', which, as in the last season turns out to be alcoholic, with similar effects to last season.
One thing that bugged me is that the Minami sisters eye color changed in the season. Haruka's eyes are a pinky/red color, when they were brown in the first season.
There are other differences as well, but that was the most glaringly obvious one.
Other than that, it's the usual fluff and nonsense that makes the Miname ke series what it is.
Going to watch the third season of Minami Ke, "Minami-ke: Okaeri" plus the OVA, Minami-ke Betsubara
Micharus:
We interrupt tonights normal programming to bring this review of
Minami-ke: Okaeri and Minami-ke Betsubara(OVA).
For this season, we are a year further on in the day to day lives of the Minami sisters, Haruka, Kana and Chiaki and it shows.
The girls are all drawn slightly more 'grown up'; a little taller, a little more 'rounded' and generally a little older looking.
Chiaki is starting to look a lot like her older sister Haruka in every way imaginable, while Kana is still Kana, just a little more curvy than normal.
The artists have either been changed again for this season or they had a good look at the first season, as the girls eye color is back to the same as the first season.
The only thing that annoyed me with this season, is that the OP starts 5 minutes into the episode and the ED is about 5 minutes before the end of the episode.
I mean, while both the OP and ED and pretty cool pieces of music and the imagery that goes with them is nice too (love the ED, the three girls are yummy and cute), it kind of threw me a bit for the first few episodes. The ED features Kana in a shorty top and short shorts, Haruka in a short white dress and Chiaki in what looks like shorts with suspenders and a rainbow top.
This season is 'more of the same', which is a good thing mostly.
There is an episode in this season, where Kana goes 'missing' which leads to flashbacks of previous episodes.
In another episode Chiaki has a bad dream which leads her to cling to Kana.
Hosaka, *that guy*, who I should probably have mentioned in the previous reviews for Minami ke, gets far too much screen time in this season.
Who is Hosaka you ask? He is a guy who either really loves Haruka or has a serious crush on her.
Either way, he is a bit of a narcissist (he loves himself a LOT) and has a tendency to open the front of his shirt and 'display' his chest.
He hardly ever even gets to speak to Haruka, let alone confess his love to her.
The OVA is more of the same, just condensed into four short segments.
Over all this last season is as enjoyable as the first two. You don't need to have your brain turned on, you can just sit back and watch.
I'm planning on watching 'Scrapped Princess' next.
Micharus:
Well, so.
I'm still here and I am actually watching 'Scrapped Princess'...... sort of.
I'm currently addicted to the 'Supreme Commander' series of games and while they are a lot of fun, missions take forever to do, averaging 1.5 hours per mission, normally longer.
This means the time I would normally watch anime in is being used to play "Supreme Commander", therefore I am kinda 'stalled' on episode 17, having watched episode 16.
I'll probably get tired of Sup Com soon, as in some time in the next few days, then I'll get back to the anime. :D
Micharus:
Scrapped Princess - the review.
This may be a little tricky to write as I took a LONG time to watch this anime.
First a cut and paste from AniDB, because I'm feeling lazy. Mind you I have rewritten it..... a bit.
Usually, the birth of heirs would be a joy to any kingdom, but at the time of the birth of the royal twins, it was prophesized that if the girl child reaches her 16th birthday, she would be the cause of the destruction of the world.
Out of fear of the prophesy, it was decided that she should not be allowed to live and the little child was cast off the highest cliff to a certain death.
Pacifica, the child of whom the prophesy spoke, is now 15 years old and traveling with her adoptive brother (Shannon) and sister (Raquel) who are dedicated to protect her.
Chased by various forces dedicated to see that the sentence of death is carried out, Pacifica is compelled to hide her identity and to rely on the strength of her brother's sword and the mastery of her sister's sorcery to stay alive.
End cut/paste.
Meet some of the characters.
Pacifica: she is the 'Scrapped Princess'. Blonde and a bit of handful, she is used to being a bit spoiled. Loves eggs and food made out of them. Not much good at anything except maybe washing clothes.
Shannon: Pacificas' older brother. With dark hair and a good solid build, he is a bit of 'eye candy' for the ladies out there. He is a 'D-Knight' and amazingly good with a sword. He is Zefiras' 'master'.
Raquel: Shannons' older sister. She also has dark hair, like her brother. Seems to be a bit of an air-head, but that may be because she has a relaxed outlook on most things. She is also a skilled magic user.
Zefira: An AI from the 'old days'/'genesis wars'. She can walk, but tends to 'float' in the air. Despite her childlike stature, she is definitely 'grown up' in attitude. When she joins with Shannon, they become the weapon system known as a 'Dragoon'.
Leo: A knight in training. Light brown hair, rides a white horse called 'Parabellum'. Uses a very large sword. He meets up with Pacifica and company on the road and ends up tagging along.
The whole series is based back in the time around the middle ages.
Transport was by foot for poor people, ox-cart for the masses, horses for people who were well off and horse drawn carriages for the wealthy.
No firearms except for cannons and sail powered ships.
BUT...... then we get to the fact the time is in what sounds to be the FUTURE, 5000 years after the 'Genesis Wars'..... so where are all of the flying cars, laser guns and whatever....
They are around, but Arthur C Clarke said this,
--- Quote ---Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

So, that pretty much covers it.
The characters are well done and you will either like them or hate them, depending on the character.
Artwork is nice, with some good backgrounds and scenery.
The storyline is pretty strong and doesn't have to resort to 'filler' episodes at any point.
There is drama, comedy and a fair bit of action.
The ladies are attractive for the most part and the guys are handsome, but the best thing is that there doesn't seem to be any of them that look alike, except for a very few examples and there is a reason for that.
In the end, this is a good anime, which I would have watched on a regular basis, but I got distracted by something else. ::)
Still, it is definitely worth watching.
Watching "Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica" next.
