Anime that I have to watch. - now my anime review thread!
Micharus:
As mentioned in a previous post, I'm putting links under the names of the anime I've reviewed in the OP.
Click the link, go direct to the post in question.
Good thing about it for the people hunting reviews in this thread..... no more hunting! Click 'n' Go.
Bad thing for those same people, you miss out on seeing what other stuff is said. heh
Doing this is proving to be a good thing for me also, as I am finding that I have done reviews for anime that I HAVEN'T listed in the OP, so I can add them.
I've found two so far, I'm sure there are others.
Is it making the thread better/more useful? I hope so!
Edit: a little under halfway done with the links, only 12 more pages to look through. lol
Edit2: Job DONE! Yay. :D
Micharus:
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica is definitely NOT your normal Magical Girl anime.
Sure the characters are cute, it has transformation sequences, but that is pretty much where the similarities to other Magical Girl anime end.
Madoka Magica is a 'dark' anime.
Magical Girls in this anime 'give up' something in order to be Magical Girls.
In return, they receive one wish granted....ANY wish and they become Magical Girls.
The catch is that they *must* fight Witches, in order to get 'Grief Seeds', which they use to keep their 'Soul Stone' bright.
Apparently using magic makes their 'Soul Stone' impure and that is the source of a Magical Girls magic.
Madoka is your ordinary school girl, she is in 2nd year at high school, along with her friends, Miki and Hitomi.
The anime opens on a scene that would make Salvador Dali quite happy to have his melted clocks in, a kind of half melted staircase on a checkerboard background.
This is where we first meet Madoka.
Eventually, Modoka meets Homura, a transfer student. To say they get off on the wrong foot is an understatement.
As the series moves on, Modoka and Miki go shopping, while Hitomi goes to 'special' classes to learn 'Tea Ceremony'.
While at the shops, Modoka hears a voice pleading for help and meets Kyubey, who is being attacked by someone and is hurt.
Miki shows up and helps Modoka to escape from the attacker, only for them to be transported to a very strange world.
Eventually Modoka is saved by a Magical Girl, Mami, who destroys the Witch who controlled the 'World' or 'Reality Marble' they were in.
From here there are many adventures for Modaka and Miki and other characters they meet along the way.
There are harsh lessons learned and many terrible experiences had, as well as 'secrets' about Magical Girls and Witches revealed.
Modoka Magica is very 'deep' and you sometimes need to think to understand what is going on.
The action and there is a fair bit of it, is plentiful and while there are plenty of opportunities for pantsu/boing and other things, it just doesn't happen.
Some of the 'Reality Marbles' will make you wonder what drugs the animators were on, they are that strange. Cotton balls with big curly mustaches!?
The animation is great, even the the super fast action is smooth.
Music is pretty good as well, I'm getting down the OST so I can get a particular track that I liked.
The ending is definitely the END. I can't see another season coming any time soon.
Modoka Magica leaves the other Magical Girl anime lying writhing in the dust.
It is going to be hard to beat.
Going to watch "Baka to Test to Shokanju" next.
Al_Sleeper:
Have you watched/read Narutaru and/or Alien 9?

Not yet and I'm pretty sure you asked this question at an earlier point somewhere in this thread.
Or it might have been asked in another thread. I dunno. lol.
Meomix:
Checking out the Fridge Logic section of Madoka at Tvtropes leads to some nice surprises.
To those who have not finished watching Madoka Magica yet, spoiling yourself is not recommended.
