As mentioned in a previous post, I'm putting links under the names of the anime I've reviewed in the OP.

Click the link, go direct to the post in question.

Good thing about it for the people hunting reviews in this thread..... no more hunting! Click 'n' Go.
Bad thing for those same people, you miss out on seeing what other stuff is said. heh

Doing this is proving to be a good thing for me also, as I am finding that I have done reviews for anime that I HAVEN'T listed in the OP, so I can add them.

I've found two so far, I'm sure there are others.

Is it making the thread better/more useful? I hope so!

Edit: a little under halfway done with the links, only 12 more pages to look through. lol

Edit2: Job DONE! Yay. :D

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica is definitely NOT your normal Magical Girl anime.

Sure the characters are cute, it has transformation sequences, but that is pretty much where the similarities to other Magical Girl anime end.

Madoka Magica is a 'dark' anime.

Magical Girls in this anime 'give up' something in order to be Magical Girls.
In return, they receive one wish granted....ANY wish and they become Magical Girls.
The catch is that they *must* fight Witches, in order to get 'Grief Seeds', which they use to keep their 'Soul Stone' bright.
Apparently using magic makes their 'Soul Stone' impure and that is the source of a Magical Girls magic.

Madoka is your ordinary school girl, she is in 2nd year at high school, along with her friends, Miki and Hitomi.

The anime opens on a scene that would make Salvador Dali quite happy to have his melted clocks in, a kind of half melted staircase on a checkerboard background.
This is where we first meet Madoka.

Eventually, Modoka meets Homura, a transfer student. To say they get off on the wrong foot is an understatement.

As the series moves on, Modoka and Miki go shopping, while Hitomi goes to 'special' classes to learn 'Tea Ceremony'.
While at the shops, Modoka hears a voice pleading for help and meets Kyubey, who is being attacked by someone and is hurt.
Miki shows up and helps Modoka to escape from the attacker, only for them to be transported to a very strange world.
Eventually Modoka is saved by a Magical Girl, Mami, who destroys the Witch who controlled the 'World' or 'Reality Marble' they were in.

From here there are many adventures for Modaka and Miki and other characters they meet along the way.
There are harsh lessons learned and many terrible experiences had, as well as 'secrets' about Magical Girls and Witches revealed.

Modoka Magica is very 'deep' and you sometimes need to think to understand what is going on.

The action and there is a fair bit of it, is plentiful and while there are plenty of opportunities for pantsu/boing and other things, it just doesn't happen.

Some of the 'Reality Marbles' will make you wonder what drugs the animators were on, they are that strange. Cotton balls with big curly mustaches!?

The animation is great, even the the super fast action is smooth.

Music is pretty good as well, I'm getting down the OST so I can get a particular track that I liked.

The ending is definitely the END. I can't see another season coming any time soon.

Modoka Magica leaves the other Magical Girl anime lying writhing in the dust.
It is going to be hard to beat.

Going to watch "Baka to Test to Shokanju" next.

Not yet and I'm pretty sure you asked this question at an earlier point somewhere in this thread.

Or it might have been asked in another thread. I dunno. lol.

Checking out the Fridge Logic section of Madoka at Tvtropes leads to some nice surprises.
To those who have not finished watching Madoka Magica yet, spoiling yourself is not recommended.

Better than "Oh let me take a sneak pick on Tropes about what this is about"... Don't do it, it's like trying to poke a pyramid of cards.

I went and looked...... but only after it was mentioned here.

Seriously, they do a good review from what I saw of the Modoka Magica page, but there are so many spoilers!

I'm watching 'Baka to Test' now and I'm at the 4th episode or in other words I've watched episode 4.

It's been good so far, the story and the circumstances behind it have been set up well.

It's funny...... but it's not super wet yourself laughing funny or not yet anyway.

Got down "Alien 9" and "Narutaru" last night, I'll add them to the 'List' soon.

Opinions wanted on what I've done with the OP. Good/Bad/Ugly whatever.

Edit; added "Alien 9", "Narutaru" and "Chobits" to the list in the OP.

Edit2: Added "Azumanga Daioh", I think I've seen this before, but it's not on my MAL.
It seems familiar on having a quick look, but maybe it's just the way the characters are drawn that is messing with my head.
Quirky twitching pigtails on a super intelligent 10 year old girls, could be fun.

Well, here it is, "Baka to Test to Shokanju", the review.

The basic story behind this anime is that the "Fumizuki Academy" separates it's students by using 'placement' exams, the students being placed according to how well they do on the exam.

The students who score really well, end up in a class room with every modern convenience, while the worst have a class room with minimal equipment that has to be seen to be believed.

The good thing is that the students can exchange classes by winning 'battles' with other classes by using summoned 'beings'.

The catch is this, the 'beings' abilities are governed by how well the student that owns it does in various tests, among other things, which you will learn about in the anime.  :P

The anime is made up of various  stories, generally one or two per episode, with the thread holding them together being constant fight for supremacy and the various relationships between the students.

The anime starts with Yoshii, our hero, noticing that a girl sitting near him, Himeji, is not looking so good and going to her rescue.

As the anime progresses, we meet other Students in the school, most of them from class F, but a few from the other classes as well.

We have the usual assortment of characters.

Himeji Mizuki:  Lots of long pink hair, large breasts, very smart.
Shimada Minami: Red/brown hair tied in a ponytail with a yellow ribbon. Not so large in the breast department. Very good with wrestling holds.
Yoshii Akihisa: Our hero! He is the 'Baka' from the title of the anime. Has a strong sense of right and wrong.
Kinoshita Hideyoshi .... A 'pretty' guy, so much so that he is often mistaken for a girl. Has a smarter twin sister, who isn't as good looking for some reason.
Kirishima Shouko: A student from one of the higher classes. She has long dark and a serious thing for Yujii.
Nishimura Souichi: The Physical Education or 'Health Studies' teacher. Known as 'Iron Man', he takes students who 'fail' in battle for further studies.
Sakamoto Yuuji: The 'cool' guy and also leader of Class F. A good strategist.
Shimizu Miharu: A girl who is a total freak for Minami. Think the same sort of thing as Shirai has for Misaka from "Rail Gun" and you'll get the idea. Has reddish hair and amber eyes.
Tsuchiya Kouta: A pervert with a camera. Also a bit of Ninja stealth wise. Seems to have at least one nose bleed per episode.
Hazuki Minami: Shimada Minami's little sister. Same color hair as her sister, but in 'twin tails'. Calls Yoshii "Mr. Stupid". "AWW CUTE" rating is +several hundred. Not one of the 'main' characters.
Akira Akihisa: Yoshii's older sister. Enjoys messing with Yoshii's head.... I think. Gets a little screen time, but I'd have liked to have seen more.  :D Not one of the 'main' characters.

Episode 6 is the obligatory "let's go to the pool/beach" episode, with all of the girls wearing bathers and the guys having massive nose bleeds.

The 'Summoned Beings' are copies of the students..... in chibi form, wearing armor and wielding various weapons.

Episode 8 has a surprise for the viewers..... and I'm not telling!

The OP is good, with catchy music and shows almost every character of any importance that shows up in the anime.

The major characters themselves are well drawn, but the producers of the anime have taken a few 'shortcuts' with unimportant characters, by using a 'generic' body type and have the class letter (A to F) in place of a face.

Still every character that has even the slightest part in the main story has proper features.

There is 'boing' in this anime, no pantsu though.

Good for a laugh and one episode had me LOL a number of times.

References I spotted to various other anime;
Code Geass. Watch carefully, look for the 'eye'.
Pokemon. During the 'treasure hunt', most of the 'treasure' is in small, red and white balls with a black stripe around the middle. Pokeball anyone?
This is an odd one.... not so much a reference to an anime as a reference to an old add on for the 'Nintendo Entertainment System'... episode 8, Yoshii wears what looks like a 'Power Glove'
There are probably more references to other anime, but I didn't see any, but that doesn't mean they aren't there!
Which ones did YOU see?

Definitely worth the watch.

Going to watch "Chobits" next.

Ah, I see. Finished the review on 'Bake to Test'. Read it Kyrdua.

Hideyoshi is ummm....what to say. If I was that way inclined, I'd hit it.

Heck, I'd probably hit if I didn't know it was a guy.

read it. pretty brief but accurate takes on the characters. missing tropes though, link to em next time ;D

who wouldn't? I mean goshdangitheck i bet even akihisa himself would tap her if she wasn't his sister.
rare for me to see big sisters like her outside hentai.

The generic faceless extras thing is actually pretty common. I don't consider it laziness though,
to me it makes the extras kinda "united" into a whole character. I'd say it would be bad if they were detailed.
Durarara!! would be another example of faceless  masses(or, rather, colorless) whose genericness actually
serve a purpose, will be spoilerific to explain why though.

btw, you missed the "pointillism(?) style shading" on the art. It's so far the only anime i've seen that uses this.
also, the monochrome sketch "i know that feel bro" cuts and their frequent use of reaction shots.
there's also the "artsy cut" as i'd like to call it, where they become more colorful than usual. gotta say it really
works well for emphasis.

-- EDIT --

I see you have Eve no Jikan in you PTW, watch it after Chobits. Has darn great art, atmosphere and plot.
i gotta rewatch that sometime. seen it on a live stream while chatting with people so wasn't able to concentrate. lol

Heh, I watched the 'series' version of 'Eve no Jikan' first, but I do plan on watching the movie at some point.

I was also going to mention a few of the things I spotted in 'Baka to Test' that are obvious nods to other anime, but for some reason didn't.

Those 'pencil sketch' scenes were rather good weren't they.

Yeah, I did a review of it somewhere in this thread, I checked my 'list' and it's there, you can use the OP to go direct!

Found another anime that isn't in my list that I already have on my HD, "Hatsukoi Limited".

Going to add that to the OP at some point, as well as updating the review for 'Baka to Test' with assorted stuff.
