Anime that I have to watch. - now my anime review thread!

<< < (93/130) > >>

Micharus:
Just finished watching "Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls".

This anime is set in an alternate/parallel universe, where certain events have not happened.

As such, everything looks like it is still the Edo Era of Japan (I think?) with some not so obvious differences.

Yes they have advanced technology, seemingly similar to what we have these days, but it seems to be 'hidden' for the most part or disguised so that it's not obvious.

Our 'Hero' Muneakira, is a Samurai, who has been sent to take over a Dojo.
When he arrives there, he discovers it is already occupied by 2 girls, Yukimura and her protector, Matabei.

Shortly after, they are attacked by Hanzou, the head of the 'disciplinary committee' of the high school that the Dojo belongs to.

During the fight with Hanzou, a girl, Juubei, falls from the sky and kisses Munekira.
She then transforms into a 'Master Samurai' and proceeds to kick serious backside.

Juubei stops just short of killing Hanzou and changes back to a normal girl.

Eventually they all meet up with Tokugawa Sen, Hanzou's 'master'.

I'll leave it there as to say much more would be bad.

This is an ecchi series, if there is a chance to show breasts, panty shots or anything short of actual genetalia, it happens.

Oddly, the echhi doesn't seem to be 'in your face', even with the amount happening.

The backgrounds are wonderful, with lots of detail, while the animation is pretty good itself.
The only thing that annoyed me a tiny bit, is that every character seemed to have a heavy black line around it, which seemed to stop them from being part of the 'picture' as it were.

The characters are well designed, even the guys were 'easy on the eyes'.
There is a 'Maid' character and a 'Loli' one too and there is a character that is very obviously a reference to Vocaloid "Miku Hatsune".
Seriously, lose the bells and put Kanetsugu into Miku's clothes and she is a dead ringer for Miku.

The ending is quite good, with a LOT of action happening in the last 2 episodes.
In the final episode, which is where most of the action happens, the power levels of the main opponents goes completely ballistic.

The trope, "the bigger a girls breasts are, the more fighting power she has" seems to be applied firmly in this anime.

Is it worth watching?
Sure, if you don't mind a fairly basic storyline, with shovel fulls of echhi spread around liberally, pretty backgrounds and good music in the OP and ED.

I enjoyed it, but it is one of those anime where you don't have to think a lot in order to get something from it.

edit: re-read this review and realized it's probably not one of my better ones. lol

Micharus:
Just finished watching episode 4 of Narutaru.

The way it started had me thinking, 'here we go with another warm and fuzzy anime', but I rapidly discovered that I was wrong about that.

It's actually gathering a rather 'dark' mood and even this early in the anime there is definitely something happening behind the main story.

I'm not exactly sure where this anime is going yet, but it is surely going to be interesting.

Yes, it can easily compete with Elfen Lied in that respect.
Be warned though, the series covers only the first half of the manga, and there is no chance it will be completed - the second half is too risky for TV.

Tatsujin:
Watch Kimi ga Nozomu Eien.

I will, eventually.

Rather I should say, "I might".

Need to at least have a look it on AniDB and see what people say about it.

*goes and looks.

AniDB only has the OVA on it's list.

Nyaa has the series, while BakaBT has the OVA, but not series, unless it is under a different title.

Looks like it may be a little interesting.
