Star Wars : Republic Commando (older game)

We did manage finally to get LucasArts to release some of the classic space sims for modern systems, so there may be hope, I know people are taking a new look a them in the light of the success of EVE Online and the X Universe which keeps getting better and better mostly again thru mod efforts, XTended mods exist now for both X3 Terran Conflict and X3 Reunion and are vast improvements on the base game. EgoSoft did say they would only do a new universe tho. Back to Star Wars the new animated series of the Clone Wars is the most activity other than the Bioware MMO at the moment but at least things are alive and there is interest.  Another pair of games I forgot to mention that are superb are Jedi Knight Academy and Jedi Knight Outcast ..both the games themselves built on the fine Quake Engine but the Mods some of which are spectacular  esp the ones by Michael May, and another modder named Revolutionary.

Yeah Jedi outcast was the shits back in the day .... i still regard it as one of the best multi-player experiences in the known universe. The awesome combo of guns, sabres and force powers meant a continuing evolution of tactics and play styles. Did the whole 'more than just shooting' better than any game has since.
Its shocking the garbage being put out under the Star Wars franchise now. Tried out Star Wars The Force Unleashed II, lasted about 3 hours of gameplay before i deleted it from my HD. Battlefront was the last decent Star Wars game.
The Star Wars MMORPG game is just gonna pwnz your bank account ....... no thanks. I see no sane reason to pay the price of a decent internet account just to play an online game, thats just bending over and inviting them to reach all the way up until then reach your wallet. Am not that blinkered a fan boy.

Don't most MMO games cost the same as a normal game if you only play it for a month? Say you play as little as an average of 2h a day, that is still 60h worth of game time. Not many games that go longer than that.

If your happy to buy on that basis then good luck to you ........ But in reality if you buy a MMO then you really want to be able to play it when you want say a couple of times a week, playing for a month isn't really getting into a MMO as its as much about community as anything. I would also point out though that paying an exorbitant monthly charge which in ToR is likely to be excessive, greedy and exploitative IMHO. Like paying extra for 'platinum editions' with extra weapons etc, just encourages developers to see gamers as idiotic cash cows. More than willing to be parted from ever larger amounts of cash whenever devs toss the digital bread crumbs. I more than understand the need for 'A' charge with a MMO large infrastructure and continued development, but when one considers the potential scale of the user base for a Star Wars MMO its very clear that monthly charges could be low or the initial game free and huge profits would still be guaranteed.

Quotes
"CEO John Riccitiello also said that the game will be "substantially profitable" if it achieves a subscriber base of 500,000 players, but the publisher is hoping for more."

"Anything north of one million subscribers is a very profitable business," he explained.

"Essentially, it turns on a dime from being ... quite sharply negative in terms of its earning per share impact to positive the day the product ships."

I see a star wars MMO doing MUCH better than 500,000 .... when you consider that late last year WoW was at 12 million subscribers and still rising.

Being asked to both pay full disc price and pay a highish subscription, would leave me feeling violated ........ as stated am not that blinkered a fan boy. Fingers crossed that Lucasarts decide to cleave to the light and low monthly pricing rather than get seduced by the darkside. But with how they have handle the franchise lately i wouldn't bet my Deathstar on it.

selling potatoes to more than 50 people a day is also very profitable, no one does anything for free mate, you want enjoyment and entertainment, you pay for it, even for sex :P
