The problem now is that the developers spends too much time with the visuals instead of gameplay and story

yup, all the stuff in FFVII was perfect

Except for everything in the fucking game (except the music and the graphics, those were good).

Gah, I hated that stupid game so much. Terrible, internally inconsistent story. Dumb characters. An incredibly lame villain.

Just a bad game all around.

Agreed.

I know..I love FFVII. I wont say it's perfect but the game was so interesting that I replayed it like 3 times

I'll match that and add my 7 more to it :)
still remember all little quests and little things, I even remember which mob to steal from on some equips :D and how to solo Emerald without any tweaking :)

If they keep the battle styles etc as they were, yes. Update em to the latest shit and I bet a load of people would end up passing them up. Myself included, I'd rather not see them redone than see them slaughtered.
I was expecting for Square Enix to make real-time battles with global cool downs like WoW. It failed. I do understand they want to stick to the turn based battle system. But that shit doesn't work very well in MMOs. MMOs is all about real time and physics and open world; not a closed world with different paths and instances (warps from field to field, thats not a true open world). I enjoy those three as the back bone for MMOs and WoW's been doing a fabulous job at it.

But you were talking about remaking the older games. Not another MMO, so comparing it to WoW wouldn't work.
This was about FFXIV.

The Remakes should stick to Turn based IMO and all other new FF games. Square "Enix" keeps failing to make games. WTB Square Soft please.

I played 14 for a few hours and then decided that it was terrible. the last good FF game I play was 9. The last decent one was 12. I don't know what they've been trying to do, but I don't like it. I hate hearing people talk about remaking FF7, which I didn't like it.

I didn't like Tidus at all. He was less annoying than Van in 12, but he was more important.

I couldn't finish 12, I probably only played 5h prior to dropping it. Have it on my hdd but feel no need to boot up the emulator. So many good PC games I can play.

PS2 emulator? hmm?

[edit] Are you using PCSX2 0.9.6? That seems to be a very popular and functional emulator.

Well i played ff11 for a long time i think it was about 7 years i ended up giving it up and was going to get into ff14 though i was unable to due to the p2p blocked where i was but now i do not have such blocks but i am not sure if its worth the trouble. From what i can tell ff11 it self has gotten some nice boots in this time but i am afraid once the level 99 cap is out the game is going to well go down.

I probably use a later version than the one you are thinking of. They always have numerous beta versions between normal versions. Each plugin has even more.

I'm honestly glad that it failed. Final Fantasy is NOT built for MMOs... it's all about the incredible stories and characters. Hopefully they learned their lesson.

But yes. Remaking the older ones with the PS3 engine would have me going nuts. The fan base for the older games is gigantic. Not like it'll ever happen though. Just think how long XIII took to make... the amount of towns was practically zero. Imagine the years it'd take to do all the towns from VII. We're looking at a decade of work. By then we'll be up to the PS5 probably :P

I can wait that long, even if i'm 50 years old and they release a remake of FF7, I would play it madly :)

Do remember that even though it was a great story and all, FF7 was unfinished.

Concur. FF series is no good for MMO.

Golden Sun and Pokemon or Digimon would make for a far better MMO. Hell, I'd even dare to say that GITS could be an interesting MMO. But it's not even a game in the same category afaik.
This is your home now. So take advantage of everything here, except me.

I don't think it would be impossible, they can mod the existing engine and since they are just remaking a game they do not need to think up original content.

if we are talking about FF7, then no, they have to re-do the engine from scratch, it won't be able to handle the current HiDef graphics used now, I don't see a problem in doing so either, as much as they could milk the cow that is Final Fantasy VII (which after 13 years is still being played by milions of people, me included) making a new engine, creating things as they were, giving the same story and quests AND finishing the game development in which they abandoned a few things and ideas cuz they really were short on time (delayed 2 times) I think that even if the game was released on 4 DVD9 disks, people would still flock it and pay even up to 100$ if not more, and some pervs would do that just to see Tifa's oversized fan-service boobs or Yuffie's flat chest :D

Square simply has no will to do it, they know it would bring them a lot of cash, they just don't want to...
