I love good board games. Haven't had much time since the late-90s or so, but I'm usually up for strategy games, especially learning new ones. Well, "new" to me, since I have a fondness for discovering ancient games from around the world.
Mancala and
Chinese chess, for examples.
Also like unusual variants on traditional games. I used to have a
3-D Chess board, which was three clear, full 8x8 boards stacked. As the link shows, there are several variants on that, including the
Starfleet Tridimensional Chess ... damn I always wanted one of those boards.
chess and go are for two players
There is a
four player variant, as well as three- and five-player. And, there is
Chaturaji. Also saw pentagonal board with five players set up like Chaturaji in my image searching just now.
When I was a kid (about 11 or 12), I developed a three-player board that was a large triangle using an isometric grid,
similar to this one (scroll down to the 15th post in this topic for a picture).
Here's a great page with several possibilities, including alternate movement for
Trigon Chess, which (the alternate) is very much like I imagined in the early 70s. Until this last year, I had a
"traditional" four player board (the exact version pictured), which was a mess of fun. A friend in Latvia has it now.
I'm looking forward to having the time and lifestyle that will allow me to collect and play these again.
