Megane na Kanojo

Two groups have finished it, HINA and UTW.. don't know which one is better.. too lazy to compare, that's why I'm just requesting it here.

Thanks in advance

If anyone has HiNA's I'll post some screenshots from UTW and the times for them.

Otherwise I'll just offer UTW's later.

Another reason I wasn't so interested in offering this one is UTW is a controlled release. So, if it turned out UTW's is better, we can only bug a distro member to upload it here.

Oh yeah.

Well hopefully one of them sees this.

UTW's has broken IVTC all over and was terribly over-sharpened. (Hint: None of that ringing is in the source.)

HiNA's has atrocious sub styling, still some bad IVTC in a few scenes, the wrong colormatrix flag set in the H.264 stream so colors are off unless you manually override it, been warpsharpened a little bit, and their scene timing is off by a few frames, even on the typesetting. Or at least this is true for ep1; I didn't bother downloading the rest after seeing this.

With those two as my choices, I ended up getting the DVD ISO and am encoding my own version instead.

Edit:
Figured I'd toss up a comparison between UTW's and an unfiltered encode of mine, to show just how much they sharpened: UTW, mine

Well then, guess that solves the problem.

Figured I'd upload it to Nyaa once it's done, and I guess I'll offer it here too.

——————————

Right, so I'm done with my version. Here's some comparisons from ep1 between all the releases I'm aware of.

1: UTW | Kirakira | HiNA | Tokimeki
2: UTW | Kirakira | HiNA | Tokimeki
3: UTW | Kirakira | HiNA | Tokimeki

UTW's is terribly over-sharpened. I'm also not too fond of their choice of font.

No one else deinterlaced the scene transitions that have double pulldown, leaving residual combing and jerkiness. I tried to make these transitions as smooth as possible, so unless you're watching for them, you probably won't notice them in the Kirakira version. I used UTW's scripts and made the dialogue styling easier to read, tweaked a lot of the typesetting to fit better, did some slight editing (mainly removed ellipsis abuse), and improved the timing on some lines.

HiNA used UTW's script and just modified it a little. Except they didn't time shift it correctly, so every line is a bit early. And instead of making the styling better, they made it worse. Their colors are off because of the incorrect colormatrix flag I mentioned before, and it looks like they warpsharpened a bit. (Notice how the text in the second screen is a bit shrunken compared to the Kirakira shot.)

Tokimeki over-cropped on the left side and resized to 848x480 for some reason. They used hard-subbed karaoke for the OP/ED, their typesetting is also hard-subbed, and they didn't typeset as much as UTW. (Not that there's much typesetting outside of ep1.) Their timing is full of scene bleeds too.

And now I'm tired, so I'll get an offer together for the Kirakira version tomorrow.

So are you Kirakira?
Why didn't you take over the aspect ratio (roughly) of Tokimekis version? The circles actually look like circle in that one.

Screenshots should be stretched to the aspect ratio they are displayed at when presenting them to others  :)

When comparing encodes, it's usually better to leave them at the encoded resolution rather than resizing them to the display resolution.

I compare releases by doing screenshots at the exact same frames/scenes and then switching back and forth between them. To be able compare the images properly their contents should be at the same position on the screen, otherwise I don't notice the little differences. That's why I think it is okay to resize the screenshots for comparisons  :D
