Happy Consumerism Day!!!
« on: December 24, 2010, 01:46:23 AM »
It's that time of the year again! How much have you spend this year? Did you buy a bunch of useless stuff just because they are on sale? What about presents? Are you well prepared for THE bribing time of the year? Share with us!

---------

I bought a video card even though my old one could handle most games fine.
All you have to do is study it out. Just study it out.

My interpretation of Christmas in the U.S.:

Non-Christian:  "Christianity does not have a monopoly on Christmas!"

Christian:  (rolls eyes) "Yes, we do!  It's called CHRIST-mas!"

Non-Christian:  "Er, I meant, the winter solstice.  Christianity doesn't have a monopoly on the winter solstice.  We want to celebrate it, too."

Christian:  "Too late.  It's our holiday, we're just loaning it to you.  Now put up your CHRISTMAS tree and your CHRISTMAS lights and go buy some presents."

Non-Christian:  "No, you don't get it, we don't believe in your God.  We don't want to celebrate YOUR Christmas, we want our own version."

Christian:  "You can't do that, it's our holiday.  Even the government agrees -- they gave us the day off, after all.  Stop being a Grinch and get Jesus some cookies and eggnog."

Non-Christian:  (exasperated) "Yes, we can.  We have freedom of religion.  We want proper recognition for our beliefs, too.  Stop rubbing our faces in your traditions."

Christian:  (pauses for a second)  "Help, I'm being oppressed!  My religion is under attack!"

Now I just need some comic-strip style art to go with the dialogue and I can be like Doonesbury.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

Winter Solstice as a day of celebration pre-dates Christianity by a long time. Specifically, I believe it was Yule that Christians ripped off, right around the time they started burning Wiccans for being witches and perpetuating the myth that all Vikings were rapists.

What IS ironic, is that the US has a growing phobia of Arabs despite worshipping a man born in the Middle East :P

Hey, hey, hey... you motherf*cker... it's Happy Holidays... hahaha

Actually, if any of you read the news or watch it or download it through your belly button (I don't judge).. did you see the news that people tried to get the Christmas Village name changed to Holiday Village to "include everyone"? I laughed so hard when I talked with Muslims and Indians about it, and they said they wanted the name Christmas Village back too cause Holiday Village sounded awful. (Sorry... other people who's holidays fall during the biggest Holiday know to man... CHRISTMAS!)

In other news... The Japanese ALSO celebrate Christmas... even though they are Buddhists.

I don't support over-the-top PC, but using Japan as an example is just ironic. The state of Christmas in Japan is exactly what's wrong with Christmas. It's like Valentine's Day and White Day in Japan.

Also Shinto and Buddhism are vastly different from the big three.
