FF X
and the one before that was Xenogears

Games pretty much suck now for the most part, and are populated by communities of 16 year old douche bag trolls who think teabagging is just sooooooo funny.

I wish we could go back to the ps1 when no one really played games except a select few, and they were interesting and driven by strong narratives. Nowadays the market has grown so large, and development cost so high, they have to dumb games down and make them generic to make sure they stay profitable.

Embric of Wulfhammer's Castle

because:
- Free game, small, one-man effort (mostly)
- epic plot and gameplay
- lots of (obscure) internet humor
- mostly yuri endings
- the single rpgmaker game that isn't epic fail (except Whisper of a Rose, that one was pretty good too)

so my list of games that impressed me now contains 2 entries, and yes I have played a lot of games :/

Torchlight-
Proves that just because a game is under a GB when installed doesn't mean it isn't better than some 10+ GB monstrosity that is usually bug filled.
Perhaps one of the biggest fan-modding communities on the 'net. The optional editor actually works. Runic encourages modding. Heck, one modder even removed the Level/Skill caps.
Fun to play because of the mods.(If you have Torchlight and haven't checked out the mods do so now at the official forums!)
Made by the same crew that did Mythos and Diablo 2.(Meaning the people who gave a damn about the players left Blizzard and struck out on their own.)

I have Torchlight but have not yet started playing it... is it really that much fun? If so, I should probably start... lol

I'm currently playing Torchlight.  It's an updated Diablo-style dungeon crawler.  It enjoyable enough, but it gets a little repetitive, the story's pretty flimsy, and the quests are ridiculous.  ("Oh, you just killed the boss monsters on levels 1-27, well, hey, coincidentally there's another one on level 28.  Go get 'im!")  But it's still fun to play for an hour or so at a time.  I like the spell animations & the sound effects; it's fun running around laser-beaming and nuking monsters until they explode.  I haven't tried any mods for it yet.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

Torchlight is a nice little game, unpretentious, rather good looking despite the small size. Wouldn't call it impressive though.

Now that I think about, I'm not quite sure any game still can impress me. Been playing for too long, have seen too many of them.

Lately games I've been playing fall into three categories: pleasant surprises, unpleasant surprises, indifference
There's no one in the world I'm interested in surpassing, excepted for myself.

TMRNetShark, Ixarku,  - Using mods is easy. Just download from the Torchlight Forum and unzip the folder into Torchlight's Mod folder. . .yes, there is a folder dedicated to player mods. One I recommend is 'TorchlightCam'. This small program gives the game a full 360/zoom, pan camera.

Fool010 - I've been getting too many 'unpleasant surprises' lately. Divinity II being the latest although Borderlands is a 'pleasant surprise'.

Probably Call of Duty: World at War, I thought it was just zombies, but it actually had quite a good campaign. Jack Bauer voicing one of the Sgt.'s was pure awesomeness. Other than that, probably Batman Arkham Aslyum.

Torchlight wasn't bad. I played the demo back in the day. It's ok... classic D2 fun I guess.
This is your home now. So take advantage of everything here, except me.
