Currently paying $23.00 for a 1mbps line and now we're gonna get capped.

This is the future of cloud computing?

If comcast ever did that to me... I know where their building is... it's the big... tall... windowy one in Philadelphia. I'll march down there and give 'em a piece of my mind! Then probably have dinner at the lovely Table 34 restaurant they have at the base of their building.

A skype call would max that out in a few hours. 800MB is no good. Expect legit users to argue heavily against it soon. Or, expect internet cafes to go nuts.

800MB/day - ~74kbps - not much better than dial-up.

PLDT's plan 990 is just ok with that if you are on for 10 hours a day. It's time to save and buy originals and rip it by yourself ;) Australia also has capping afaik it's 5GB at off-peak(midnight onwards), burning a DVD5 a day is too much for me.

You'll burn through whatever cap you have when you have four people in your house with their own PC's.

FYI for the non-natives.

Plan 999 = 1mbps DSL (Phone not included. Our PLDT bill is 2k a month if you include the landline)
Plan 990 = 512kbps DSL + Phone

Whoops. Plan 990 is 384kbps, NOT 512.

http://www.pldt.com.ph/products/consumers/internet/Pages/myDSL.aspx

If PLDT decides to put a cap, maybe they'll just put it on the plan 990's? They're they ones downloading at plan 999 speeds when they're only supposed to be 384kbps. :-X

Shaw's highspeed lite I think is around 30GB up AND down per month. High speed is 60GB and Nitro is 100 or 150? They used to not enforce anyone going over the limit but I hear that is changing come January.

Wait wut? I thought data caps up here were limited to Quebec... Guess not. 30 GB up and down is terrible, had that for awhile until my dad realized that I was just going over the cap anyways. Down here in Quebec, the main 'net providers are Bell's Sympatico and Videotron. The former throttles, lies about the services they can provide, and just sucks balls overall. Videotron isn't bad, for the Ultimate High Speed 15 and above packages. The normal High Speed one is alright, assuming you can live with 30 GB up and down.

Quote from: The Article in the OP
The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) allowed broadband service providers to cap the daily volume data allowed per subscriber. With this move, NTC hopes that internet providers will finally improve their service reliability which is often the main complaint from consumers.

I predict there will be a new main complaint from consumers shortly.
