Decent seedbox provider?
« on: January 13, 2011, 10:22:31 PM »
Since I'll be moving shortly and will only be able to get a 7/1 Mbit line (down from 30/30) for the first few months (due to the fact that laying fiberoptics in the ground when it's frozen is pretty hard), I'll have to find a seedbox in order for things to proceed smoothly.

So, I was wondering if anyone here have any suggestions? I'd like at least 40 GB space and ideally unmetered bandwidth on a decently fast line (20 Mbit up), as I currently average about 120 GB down/5.5 TB up per month (yup, 65 TB/year).

I've also noticed that a few providers don't allow torrents on open trackers, which is something I require.

As for price, I'd be willing to pay something along the lines of $70 a month - preferably not much more than that anyway.

Any suggestions welcome!

I'm using xirvik.

When I start out I get great speeds but after a few months of adding many torrents the SB slows down to a crawl. After many emails I've grown tired of their explanations. Thus right now I'm in the process of trying to get a new server for format the current server and get root access. I'd love to get access to the server and do all the work myself. Do not want the bloated shit they have on it... All I want is a torrent client and FTP.

Sounds like Xirvik is pretty much fine then - I must say, the prices are surprisingly low. Think I'm going for one of their $55/month dedicated boxes.

And even if it craps out every couple months or so, that's fine with me - this is just until summer or so.

Thanks for the help, guys!

Well, I already picked up a Xirvik box, and so far I'm pretty satisfied. Was shoving files to it at 75 Mbit/s (my ISP fails to cap my line properly whenever I use >20 transfers at once...), and it seems pretty fast and responsive. The ruTorrent WebUI loads faster than the uTorrent WebUI on the server sitting in the room next to me. Bigger disk would be nice, but what the hell.

As for Rackmounted.com - 2 TB/month transfer limit, and it costs $79/month. No thanks. Xirvik offers a semidedicated box (4 users) with gigabit connectivity, 800 GB space and unlimited transfers for ten bucks more per month.

Seems that there's good response for Xirvik from the community. Are seedboxes safe? Can you be tracked and things like that?

Has anyone heard about Seed Monster?

They can track the seedbox and ask/demand information about the owner of it.
