About 15 years ago I got involved with a university dance club that focused a lot on ballroom, but also salsa, tango and other more energetic & intimate styles. It was wonderful fun & I recommend to anyone. I was surprised at the dancing community that I discovered and had never really thought about. I've broken a few things since then & can no longer enjoy it, but I would again if I could every get my knees repaired ...
Chica magnet ..? Not so much as, you get to spend quality, intimate & physically active time with a bunch of girls who want to dance, and you get to dance with partners a lot. Opportunity to develop those social skillz, focus on laughing and sense of humor is Always Good. If you're there for the dancing because you like it, you'll be spending quality time with girls who have the same interests. Show some interest in tango (for example) and see if there's a club going (excellent opportunity for between-class practices) ... natural progression can follow.

I made some great friends that I still visit with today, some of whom go to competitions to this day.
