Final Fantasy XIII-2
SeventyX7:
My problem with Square Enix, moreso than the poor stories and bland characters they've had in their recent games, is how unfun they are.
It's like they spend ALL their time on making the cinematics and then the last week or so of development making a combat system to throw in at the last minute.
The combats systems in 1-10 & 12 were all crazy fun (though I HATED 12 for its story and characters...I mean..an evil twin...really?), and then 13, infinite undiscovery, last remnant...
I honestly don't care about whatever amazing cinematics SE is showing off for their new games atm. Show some gameplay or gtfo.

That is how I feel about all JRPG, they are all interactive novels/movies at best. SE is extra bad there, it's like they don't want you to play, but instead fap to their piss contest animation skills.

Fully animated interactive novels are good. Forcing you to do the combat when it isn't fun, is bad. An 8h long movie for 60 dollars is a bit better than normal price for movies?
Pure interactive novels are also price worthy when compared with normal books.

Personally I enjoyed FFXIII. Yes it was very linear but it's not like any FF game has been a really open, they have just given impression of being open while renaming mostly linear. I also enjoyed the more strategical instead of tactical approach to combat, means I can sit back in the sofa and enjoy the show without having to focus too much, exactly the type of gaming I got the console for in the first place.
The third reason I enjoyed it is also the reason watching the teaser trailer really reduced my interest in the sequal. I vastly prefer sci-fi over fantasy. I grew tired of fantasy 10 years ago and still having regained any real interest and it really looks like XIII-2 will go the fantasy route.

I'm insanely stoked about a sequel. XIII was one of my favorite Final Fantasy games. I never expected a sequel out of it either. Was a great surprise to come online tonight to see the news.
