In need of some BakaBT lovin'

Hey Folks,

I've been entirely absent from the forums for about 2 years now.  My last appearance was back during the Idol competition.  I was a Round 1 contestant and I was about to advance to Round 2 (as far as I could tell from feedback etc) however the competition dragged on and I didn't have the time to keep checking back to check up on updates.  Anyhow, I first want to say that I'd love it if we could do the competition again sometime soon!  Hopefully with better organization this time though :(

Anyhow I'm in need of some feedback for a medley I put together.  I'd like to become active on BakaBT so I can have a community of people who will support/tell it like it is.

I'm told that BBT Idol had issues with getting people to judge it.

We are attempting to have more community events; the recent Mahjong tournament was the start of that.  The difficulty is always in getting both people to organize it and people to participate (and not drop out).

To the video,

It's nice.  It was well sung; I enjoyed it quite a bit.  But I am not one to say whether something is good or bad.  It is what it is.

We should do an event in which its easy to participate, so more people will join and not drop.  I can't sing or play Mahjong.

Any fan of Jeff Buckley gets my vote.  Given the range here, I suggest that Richard Thompson has a large body of work from which you'd likely find a few gems (Beeswing, I Feel So Good, and I Misunderstood for quick examples).  Pretty respectable effort.  I bumped it up to the 480 resolution because I'm also a huge fan of black & white photography.  Very nice, elegant & dramatic.

The reverb in the room definitely takes away, but it is what it is and I really enjoyed that.  I've recorded quite a number of live shows and rather like that raw, unproduced feel.  Thank you very much for posting.

On the other note: I am a talentless hack and couldn't participate in an Idol competition.  But, if I still had my recording gear I could have helped with much better audio source for the video.  Shame I lost all that ...

Regarding what Tomoya-Kun said, maybe he's right.  The idol competition was a lot of fun for the people who could sing but the non-singing majority weren't in on the fun except for being able to root/cheer contestants on.

Leave it to the BBT community to have some of the nicest and unrudest (yes I just made that word up) people around.  I really appreciate the nice compliments!  Thanks Tomoya-Kun!  Datora, thank you for the song suggestions.  I hadn't heard of Richard Thompson, I do enjoy his guitar skills.  I am in the process of trying to find artists who I better mesh with in playing/singing style so I'll have to give some of the suggestions you gave me a go when I get the chance.  Yes it is a shame about your recording equipment.  I'd love to work with people who are better at video/audio than me as I'm just an amateur.
