« on: January 28, 2011, 09:21:45 PM »
I cant seem to stop doing this. I dont even watch what I get anymore, I just seed. Is this a new level of boredom?

I just download. That is the next level after you have seeded enough.

I don't do that, my hard drives are full as it is without me downloading more files just to seed (I also seem to be able to seed at almost full speed, so there is no need to download just for seeding). Now that I have a fast connection, I seed stuff for longer, when I had DSL I would seed a torrent to maybe 2 ratio and stop it (so I can seed other torrents), now my ratios are usually something like 100 (if there are enough downloaders). Private torrents generally have lower ratios because there are more seeders and fewer downloaders.

I dont worry about space that much, if I do I just delete the biggest torrent, burn it and then remove it from my drive. Keeps my collection going.

When I collect 100-200GB of watched anime (preferable series that have no upcoming sequels), I record it to tape and delete it from my hard drives to make space for something new. Still, now that I am seeding a lot of stuff on BBT, it's hard to stop some torrent that gets good upload, which means that not only I am more likely to just keep the files, also I mostly have to keep them on my DL server, which only has a 320GB HDD (when I had slow connection, I would download files to it, then move them to some other HDD after seeding them enough; seeding from a network drive is a bit unreliable and uses more resources).

I D/L  things I want to watch (or listen ... I'm an audio whore as most of you probably have heard enough about already).

Anyway, I listen to everything because I can do that while doing other work.  However, I don't get a lot of time to watch, so I have something like 200 or so torrents awaiting that kind of free time.  It doesn't stop me from D/Ling more ... that only slowed down when I filled a 2 TB drive in ~4 months.

I have an active 250 GB partition filled with torrents that are on constant seed.  I rotate out high-ratio ... for me being over 10:1, or often 12 or 14 by the time I swap them around a bit.

Something hypnotizing about watching the upload numbers climb.  Feels like I'm unlocking some sort of achievement or something.

I know all is going to be lost when I start deleting high-ratio torrents that I've never watched just so I can download new ones to seed.  Yah, I do fear that day ...
I win, once again, in my never-ending struggle against victory.

I download for the collection. I keep everything I download even if I liked it or not. I only seed if there are enough leechers. If I see a torrent have plenty of seeders then I don't seed but I try to seed as much as I can. Plus I dont download much anymore.

Downloading just to seed is kinda pointless for me now, I generally always cap out mu upload speed (which isn't a lot, 100kb/s). But I just seed whenever I can so it ends up being fine ;D

yeah Ive already transfered stuff to a portable drive to make space once already, I realize why Im seeding so much now, i was at 370gb down from baka and only uploaded 30/40ish gb. Now Im at 408gb/104gb. Think Im gonna keep seeding until it reaches the same amount as my down.

Yeah, I'll just keep buying external HDDs until I have the need for a RAID setup (which will be soonish). I wonder... 8 TB Raid split will sound good enough to last me another 2 years?

Is Drobo good for RAID storage?

My 4tb anime drive only has 30 gb left.

Certainly a lot better than the setup you've got.  RAID 0 in a cheap, proprietary external is psychotic.

Although if you've got the space, an internal hardware RAID card would be cheaper and more reliable.

Hell even if you don't have the space, if you're going to go the raid route anyway, just build a dedicated file server.  A decent case, PSU, 4GB of ram, and an Athlon II with a decent motherboard, running Nexenta would give you all the functionality of the drobo with better performance and expandability.  The $400 you'd save building it over buying the drobo would buy 4 or 5 2TB drives.
