Downloading just to Seed

<< < (2/5) > >>

vuzedome:
At least this keeps the pool healthy.

Pentium100:
I don't do that, my hard drives are full as it is without me downloading more files just to seed (I also seem to be able to seed at almost full speed, so there is no need to download just for seeding). Now that I have a fast connection, I seed stuff for longer, when I had DSL I would seed a torrent to maybe 2 ratio and stop it (so I can seed other torrents), now my ratios are usually something like 100 (if there are enough downloaders). Private torrents generally have lower ratios because there are more seeders and fewer downloaders.

Darsul:
I dont worry about space that much, if I do I just delete the biggest torrent, burn it and then remove it from my drive. Keeps my collection going.

Pentium100:
When I collect 100-200GB of watched anime (preferable series that have no upcoming sequels), I record it to tape and delete it from my hard drives to make space for something new. Still, now that I am seeding a lot of stuff on BBT, it's hard to stop some torrent that gets good upload, which means that not only I am more likely to just keep the files, also I mostly have to keep them on my DL server, which only has a 320GB HDD (when I had slow connection, I would download files to it, then move them to some other HDD after seeding them enough; seeding from a network drive is a bit unreliable and uses more resources).

I D/L  things I want to watch (or listen ... I'm an audio whore as most of you probably have heard enough about already).

Anyway, I listen to everything because I can do that while doing other work.  However, I don't get a lot of time to watch, so I have something like 200 or so torrents awaiting that kind of free time.  It doesn't stop me from D/Ling more ... that only slowed down when I filled a 2 TB drive in ~4 months.

I have an active 250 GB partition filled with torrents that are on constant seed.  I rotate out high-ratio ... for me being over 10:1, or often 12 or 14 by the time I swap them around a bit.

Something hypnotizing about watching the upload numbers climb.  Feels like I'm unlocking some sort of achievement or something.

I know all is going to be lost when I start deleting high-ratio torrents that I've never watched just so I can download new ones to seed.  Yah, I do fear that day ...
