Anyone else get the feeling Fansubs are an evil plan of hardrive manfactures?

AceHigh:
First of all, there is always an option to delete anime to free up space. Secondly, Blu-Ray release groups are doing this as a part of their dick waving pissing contest of who provides higher quality, nothing more. Also bandwith is cheap, so people get lazy, instead of trying better compression technologies, they just release bloated.

All of this is only 55GB, is the Blu Ray management smoking pot!?

Well, the encoder said in his(her?) defense that he(she?) prefers over-sized release since you can reencode over-sized release to a lower bitrate if you find that lower bitrate is enough, but you can't reencode under-sized release to higher bitrate if you find it lacking. Whether you think it's bullshit or not is up to you though :)

I can't help but agree with this. Bloated encodes are generally more "safe", in the sense that if one can't find the exact sweet spot where no noticeable artifacts appear, encoding bloated will be safer. But that doesn't really show competence as an encoder, instead it shows incompetence. This problem gets rectified with screenshot battles, which defeats the purpose of CRF anyway, since CRF actually lowers quality on motion scenes, because small artifacts during motion scenes won't be noticeable during playback unless you have sharingan or sth, but they get really noticeable on screenshots. Might as well do QP, with constant quality for all scenes.

Pharismo:
And people still want to stop piracy....
They always forget the others jobs that is created by pirates such as those. They also forget that piracy makes people buy more HDs so they spend money on others sectors. Well we discussed this before.

AceD:

Come to the movie scene and then come back to fansubs and realize it aint so bad.

AceHigh:
Pharismo, that is the main reason why Microsoft told MPAA/RIAA to fuck off every time they attempt to persuade Microsoft to have movie and music DRM in their OS. Every time the Microsoft tells them that they will not put any restrictions of that kind for their customers.

That is also the reason why ISP almost always go to court when someone tries to extort them for their customer info.

In these cases pirates are customers for someone else.... hell that is actually quite appropriate as analogy to real pirates, who were pirates for some and privateers for others.

Not surprising at all, people are getting lazy in all scenes.
