Anyone played Magicka?
« on: February 19, 2011, 11:00:35 AM »
I've seen some videos and I was impressed with the combining magic stuff. On the other hand there has been some negative stuff said about the game too; that it's broken and incomplete. Has anyone here played it? If you have what are your thoughts about the game?

Lot's of updates, I think up to update number 10 so far.
But the updates are doing their jobs, much better than the initial release.

3 friends and I tried the initial release.  4-6 crashes and 2 hours later, we decided to give up on it until some of the glitches were fixed.

Gameplay is interesting, the story is awesome but the bugs are plentiful.
Developers are releasing a lot of major patches almost daily, and the game so far is a lot more enjoyable then it initially was.

But all in all, it's a fun game - crashes and some bugs may ruin the overall experience, but not as much to make you regret purchasing it...
Although the largest shortcoming (IMO) is the lack of ability to join (or rejoin) an ongoing game.
Netplay really suffers a lot from it.

Difficult.... Possible, but insanely difficult....
You need at least one friend in your party for support.

Downloaded the demo from steam to see if
it's as good as it's made out to be by most
reviews I've seen and the scores of fanboyz.
Too bad that all I see when the demo start
is a white screen and hearing someone speak =/

Pressing Esc works though and I can choose
to quit. Thoughtful of them to make that
work at least ;)

Might be an unsupported graphic card, like intel integrated cards, their development team stressed out they won't be developing support for those.

Nah, got a nvidia gts450 1GB. It's not top
of the line or anything but it's good enough
for most games and kinda new.

I've played the demo now myself too. It's actually alot of fun, perhaps one of the most innovative systems i've seen for a while. Playing on my own forced me into a total coward playstyle.......mak e large dome shield around me, charge it up, run up to it's edge and start making flaming rock walls (earth>fire>shield) outside of my barrier. Next cast rain (won't get wet thanks to the barrier) then start infusing my sword with light walls (lightning >shield) and launch them using sword outside of the barrier. While rain is still going anything touching the lightning walls is going to fry.

It would be much more fun on multiplayer, I just wonder if I can find any EU players about =P

Doesn't support my ATI card either. Whenever NCPs arrive, their bodies get stretched and stuff. :(

It's pretty good, but difficult if you have no buddies to play with.

I downloaded it on the 28th and have been playing through by myself so far.

RE: Bugs, the first time a bug actually affected me was against Death, I'd be spamming my health mines and sometimes he would completely vanish after he tried to do some magic. It also affected me by being on different ground levels to when he first performed his 360 degree spell. Apart from that nothing to report! Awesome game, loads of fun, just wish I had found all my spells...

I'm playing in China at the moment, sadly no-one with any where near decent ping is near me, so single player FTW.

I get the feeling my friends hate playing this with me because sometimes I get the uncontrollable urge to keep sending them flying around the screen with healing mines.

It's pretty good, but difficult if you have no buddies to play with.

The game is quite difficult until you figure out how to do things, once you've got the idea it's quite easy. Bosses require appropriate tactics and in some case both excellent coordination and a bit of luck.

Some situations can get extremely annoying when not handled properly. Khan gave me a hard time until I figured out he actually is very easy to beat. I had to struggle until I got the correct timing for Death, or the last boss.

I'm looking into getting this game with the Vietnam DLC for about $10... anyone reccomend this game to me at all? I like how it looks, but I would like if it actually has become less bug prone... any takers?

VIETNAAAAAAAAAAAAAM MMMM!!

TBH, I was expecting a lot more than what was actually provided in that DLC. It was fun, yes, but it was short.

Yes, I strongly recommend getting the game. If you haven't already gotten it, get the complete collection now. It's on discount on Steam (50% off the game, and a further discount if you buy the package).
