It doesn't seem to be that bad to be honest—well, apart from using to bloom as a transitive verb. While this isn't wrong, it hasn't really been used with that particular meaning for quite some time—the standard edition of Merriam-Webster seems to lack an entry, and the OED considers it archaic—so it does seem a bit strange.

I would probably have taken 花咲くいろは to mean something along the lines of The Essentials of Growing Flowers or The ABC of Growing Flowers, but then, my Japanese isn't exactly the best. In light of that, How to Grow a Flower doesn't seem so bad, unless I'm misunderstanding the title.

I haven't actually watched the show, though, so I have no context.

I am kinda disappointed that this doesnt have a manga or novel so I can read a few chapters ahead in order to get a handle on where it is going. This is show that I will potentially want to watch but only if it follows a certain path (which I have noted in a previous post)
So now I am stuck having to watch this just hoping the story even goes in my direction, let alone goes well.

Its not too bad tho, cuz as I also said earlier, this is the first show this season that left me really wanting more. What I want is for the relationship with Ko (the guy who confessed right before she moved away) to become a large part of the plot. I am not interested in her dealings at the onsen or her ability to get long with everyone, I think we all have an idea how that will play out. (I would be happy to be wrong, it just seems obvious.) But even if it is predictable, its not something I am interested in, I would rather see a predictable romance.

That said, I have a feeling I will follow this, even if I do so bitterly.

Trope no. 1: mother takes off, child left parentless ... wow, never seen that one before
Trope no. 2: 16-year-old girl longing for drama to escape from her boring life ... ooooo, how novel
Trope no. 3: best friend is in love with her but never says so ... no, really?
Trope no. 4: she has to make her own place in the world (probably by being nice to everyone) ... most original plot I've ever seen
Trope no. 5: she falls down and some guy (turns out her uncle) grabs her butt - should I be happy it wasn't the boobs this time?
Trope no. 6: there's an abrupt girl who hates her ........

COME ON!! I'm not giving up hope just yet, but I predict tropes tropes tropes and panty shots. Fuck that.

I'm pretty sure most (and I mean like 95%) of anime would sound bad if you just brought it down to those things.

Hanasaku Iroha may have a cliche setup, but what matters is that it has brilliant execution, direction, and writing so far. Whether it holds up for the next 25 episodes is to be seen.

Ok, maybe they're not gonna be pantyshots, but if you look at the pictures at the top of the thread ... those are panty shots without the panties. And no, 95% of anime do *not* sound bad when split into tropes. Maybe 60%, but there are anime out there that are vastly more original than anything I've seen at the movies in the last 10 years.

I'm just tired of seeing all that great animation and that brilliant execution wasted, yes, wasted, on another boring-ass done a hundred times before anime when there are such great stories still untold. (Fractale, I'm looking at you, too

)

And while I'm not the target audience for this anime (oh am I ever not), I'm unhappy that instead of the target audience being somewhat challenged with new ideas and new notions, it's same old same old tits and ass and tired story all over again. So I *will* analyze and complain and not simply watch it and go "oooeee nice animation".

I'm still prepared to be impressed in future eps. I reserve the final judgement for after I've watched a complete series and unexpected turns are one of the hallmarks of anime. Still, in that first ep there was nothing new for me and that's not the best sign.

Enjoy the anime and how it was made. Forget the other anime and don't compare it. Hanairo is going to be a solid amazing series. MARK TATSU'S WORDS!

Horriblesubs, Hatsuyuki-Tsuki, Underwater-Commie (all 3 of them use CR scripts) and Doki.

I recommended going with one of the CR options, as Doki's English is notably awful. (CR version of that line)

And Hatsuyuki have a TLC listed on their release page so I would assume yes. They seem to have edited it quite a bit (translation seems unchanged, just edited English), going by the ji-hi comparisons. (link)

I suppose if you like their edits, they're the version to go with. Personally I like the original CR script as it is (unless an error is fixed), so I'll just stick to Horriblesubs (if I'm feeling impatient) or Underwater.

I had a HS release and there were not many mistakes, at least nothing that lighted a bulb in my head saying "bothers" so nothing visibly annoying you when you see it, CR did a good job on it.
