I played through the VN on one day because I was so excited. Every chapter felt like Hell - you know, the sweet sort of it, lol.

You can beat the game in about 18-20 hours, a bit more if you want to do every route. I know just a bit, enough to at least get what people want from me. And a friend of mine speaks Japanese fluently. : 3

Gah, it's split into a patch, an update, an MDF file (>2.3GB), and an MDS file (<a few hundred KB). I have no idea what to do with it. Apparently the MDF is like a compressed ISO? But you supposedly use MagicISO or Alcohol 120%, neither worked for me. Crap...

EDIT: Okay, it's installing with that odd ???/&% language. (I've setup Clannad like this, so it should be fine.)

You should run it from AppLocale menu into Japanese language pack, just install AppLocale and run it, make a shortcut and it should work just fine, you shouldn't even have any problems.
