It seems there are several thread related to this game but none actually talks about playing the game itself so I decided to make one.

My short review of the game:
(click to show/hide)

I've been playing since MHP2/2G, was a pretty good GS/Hammer/HBG soloist (practically soloed my way up to HR9 White Fatalis) back then, then my PSP broke and I left it for a looooooooooong time till I decided to fix it just to play this ;D

Right now I'm still only at Village quest, just killed Jinouga, maybe because I haven't played in a year and a half, or maybe because I'm still not used to Switch Axe, but damn was that hard. It's even harder when I bring cats. I was never a good player when hunting in groups :( Also, I'm a bit disappointed at the lack of YKK here :P

So, anyone play this? What rank are you and what are your weapon specialties?

Glad to see that there's a fellow monster hunter in the forums :)

Just got to HR 6 a week ago, but my armor sets are still pretty mediocre. I guess I've still got a lot of farming to do. I've been maining the lance and I'm enjoying it even today. Currently farming for a Guard +2, Evade +2 and Sharpness +1 set.

Do you play in Xlink Kai? It's a good way to enjoy the multiplayer fun that MH has to offer since the program is free (if you're using the usb cord, that is).

Finally another hunter here! :)

A lance user? Man, that's like the hardest weapon for me to master, tried it out several times and I suck at it :(

I haven't used Xlink, but I think I'm going to, my hunt friends lives quite far away from here so it'd be good to find new hunting friends. You have any tips on using Xlink? Since I still don't know anything about it.

I personally started off the series with MHF2 using a GS, so I had a bit of difficulty adjusting to the "poking" attacks of lances. But evading and guarding in MHP3 is fun so I'm not that bothered by it  :)

You have to have a CFW PSP if you're planning to use a USB cord to play Xlink since you'll have to go to the recovery mode and enable some plugins. On the other hand, you can just use a wireless USB router to play in an OFW PSP. Your call, I guess  ;D

I've been playing in Xlink Kai for nearly 2 years now. It's mostly smooth sailing, just make sure to have a reliable internet connection. You can try searching their forums for guides on how to set it up. (http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=39586 --> USB cord guide)

Hope to play with you some day!

Looks like there are quite a lot of lance users now in MHP3, I might give it a try later :) Any good armor/weapon recs?

Thanks for the link, that does the trick! Just tested and hunted a silver rathalos with some people, though I still don't really understand how to use Xlink Kai, especially things like adding friends etc.

By the way, no other hunters here? I thought this game would be really popular, it is the most popular one in Japan after all. People who read this thread but haven't played the game, you should try it out, it's fun :)

I guess the best armors for lance users are those with a combination of Guard +2 and Evade +2 skills. There's hardly no effort required to finish quests if you've got those skills on since you can just poke around, evade, and let the MOI (moment of invincibility) save the day :D

Ice Agnaktor head 1 slot
Steel Uragaan body 1 slot
Ice Agnaktor arms 3 slot
Ice Agnaktor belt 3 slot
Steel Uragaan boots 3 slot
11 slots available
+7 evade charm
1-slotted weapon

Skills: Evade+2, Guard+2, Guard Inc

Can't recommend armors for other weapons, though. Haven't used anything except lances. :P

Glad to see you've got Kai working. I'm pretty sure there are a couple of dozen hunters around the English-speaking arenas in MHP3 Kai. If you're looking for hundreds of players, you might want to play in the Japan arena.

I play, but tbh I find it quite boring so I spend most of my gaming time playing aion or rift instead, doing all those stupid quests just to unlock higher ones is soooo boring.
And longsword/greatsword ftw

^It usually gets boring if you mostly play solo. The fun in Monster Hunter comes when you're doing multiplayer quests. We here in the Philippines schedule weekly "adhoc sessions" so that dozens of hunters might be able to gather in one spot. :)

... but, to each his own, I guess.  ;D

I really can't say soloing HR6 Jhen Mohran, Amatsu, and the likes 'boring' though. The gathering quests are boring, but you don't need to do all of them just to unlock higher rank quest.

Hey max_505, when do you usually play online?

I usually play 2-3 times a month, mostly during weekends. But since summer vacation's coming up in 4 weeks, I'll be able to play almost every day until June. :D
