It's kinda sad when most you see from game review sites like gamespot, ign, etc are western games.
It feels kinda biased. I just wish reviewers start to look at games more objectively.

Besides, why do we have to view every game created and base it on the western standards?
Most westerners prefer the immersive type of games with realistic graphics anyway.
While some people really appreciate the stylized art of anime and the quirky and oft times absurd yet epic plotlines
of jrpgs. And there are some who actually appreciates both kind of games for what they are..

I mean, what the heck.. since when is it better to isolate yourselves from external influence unless reviewers think it
might actually pose a threat to the sales of their domestic produced games? You might think that game reviews have very little to
do with the commercial success of games, but knowing that there are actually very few people out there who aren't swayed by well publicized opinions and that reviewers can be bribed by gaming companies to write favorable or disparaging reviews, and you realize it doesn't really take much to sway the gullible masses to hate something that is unknown or foreign to them than to make them like something that they don't.

Case in point, some people like 2d over 3d. Some people like both. Some people only like one over the other.
But I just don't get why those people would bother trying to deprive the rest by repeatedly saying "NO" to what
the others would enjoy.

Discrimination is a b1tch.. especially when it doesn't make sense..

I don't get what the problem is with many people over JRPGs. They're not all giant-sword wielding demons who do 99 octillion damage every attack. I happen to really like the Ys series, and the remade versions have only recenty been translated and brought to us by XSEED(Not counting the atlus version, bad translation problems). I'm a casual gamer, and was still able to beat Ys I in one day with ease, there's no turn based combat, just ramming your enemies until they asplode into a bloody mess.

But at the same time, I like my translations to be good, otherwise I may as well just import. Atlus botched the DS version of Ys I&II with things like the "Temple of Salmon". It just ruins the mood when you're in an old holy temple flooded demons, and you notice it's named after fish.

pretty sure it's simply because western rpg's are catered for western audiences. which (surprise) what majority
of the reviewers in those review sites are. before someone retorts with "i'm american and i like jrpg's". well, the
reviewers are american but they don't, simple enough.

While I did mark the box for 'more JRPGs', I do want to point out that we're getting a lot more JRPGs today than we ever did in the NES, SNES or PSX days.  Sure a few major titles like Xenoblade, but the vast majority have come over.  Even games that probably won't even sell 150,000 units outside Japan like Solatorobo.

The problem isn't so much a lack of interest or companies are unwilling to bring them over.  Its a combination of piracy and lack of interest from western markets.  While 'major' RPGs like Final Fantasy, Pokemon and Mario RPG have no problem selling, the lesser advertised JRPGs hardly ever sell.  This is because fans don't actively go out to buy JRPGs.  Even major series like Dragon Quest, Monster Hunter and Tales sell very low.  Because 1) They lack the major advertising of a title like Final Fantasy XIII or Pokemon Black/White and 2) Many people just pirate those games instead of buying them.  This is especially true for PSP and DS titles.  You may not be this way, but its a sad fact that a LOT of Americans don't think handheld games are 'worth' buying.  So they pirate PSP and DS games, then buy console games.  And since 90% of JRPGs are on PSP and DS....yeah, you see the problem.

I know my view isn't popular, but the reason we aren't seeing more JRPGs come over is because of these two problems.  If you want to see more JRPGs come to America, buy the JRPGs that do come over and stop pirating them.  Europe has bought more JRPGs proportionally than America has, and that's why Nintendo localized Xenoblade for them.  Series like Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter sold some 33% better in Europe than America, with having nearly 4x smaller market of gamers.  You do the math.

I marked NO MORE. I really enjoy the building up 1 character type of RPGs like Diablo and WoW, especially online play. I'm willing to admit I'm a Blizzard fanboy, I pretty much play FPS games in between Blizzard releases.

So I may be a little biased because my JRPG gaming experience doesn't expand much beyond the Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Persona, and Star Ocean series. Sure they've got superior story lines, but I began to hate having to manage teams of 10 different superfluous characters in Final Fantasy type games and a single player setting only made it worse. Seems like those are the types of JRPGs we get. I watch anime for story lines, anything that gets in my way of spilling the blood and guts of armies of demons for more than 3 seconds ruins my gaming experience.
If you wasted 5 seconds of your life reading this then you are an idiot and you are an even bigger idiot if you kept on reading looking for a period or something.

When realistic graphics become as easy and as often as in real life, people will start comparing 2d more favorably.

I fully agree.  But as much as I used to blame sites like IGN and GameTrailers for obviously downscoring games that had 'Anime Graphics', I grew to realize they're just following the trends of western taste.  Even up till the PS2 days, Western gamers still seemed to like Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Capcom/SNK/Sammy Fighters, Mario, Zelda and etc which all clearly had character designs that looked 'Anime'.  And even at this time, certain niche games like Dragon Quest VIII or Suikoden III got high marks.  But it was near the end of the PS2 days, when games like KOTOR, Grand Theft Auto and The Sims started outselling everything else, that suddenly reviewers jumped on the 'Japan sucks, West is God' train.  And every game that came from Japan seem to automatically get a one point reduction simply because of its design.

But again, I can't really blame them.  While games like Dragon Quest, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Osu! Tatake! Ouendan! and Valkyaria Chronicles are some of my favorite games of this gen, they weren't selling 5 million copies each and western gamers clearly preferred to pirate them over buying them.  And reviewers took notice.  How else can we explain games like GTAIV getting perfect scores on the avg review site, when even fans say the games have massive problems?  Its because reviewers follow hype and money, and no longer judge a game by its quality.

The last time I saw IGN give a favorable review to a Japanese game was Muramasa, and I still feel they gave us a kind of slap in the face by giving it an '8.9'.  Its like they were saying 'Definitely one of the best games on Wii, but because it looks like Anime, it can't be a 9.0'.  And don't even get me started on sites like Gamespot and Gametrailers.  I don't think I've seen any Japanese game except Mario and MGSIV get above an 8.5 on those sites.

Oh yes, I would love some JRPG, especially for the PC. We only ahve Last Remnant so far, and I feel it's not nearly enough!
