Firefox 4 is out!
« on: March 22, 2011, 06:56:17 AM »
For those of you who use Firefox...

Firefox 4 is out!  ;D

Download here:

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/new/

It's pretty snappy, but if you use a lot of add-ons some of them might not be compatible with FF4

That is the RC. The final version is supposed to be on their ftp servers (haven't and don't intend to check).

I knew nothing of the outside world. I was just a frog in a well.

Not updating until there is a stable version out. Firefox pretty much takes care of that itself which is why I love it. :D

The RC is stable...
Since there aren't really any bugs anymore that will be the same version as the final.

I'll wait to see if there is an option (or an extension) to keep the FF3 style UI since I do not like the new Chrome-style UI.

One thing about Chrome that's kind of a pet peeve is that you have to press down on the back (or forwards) buttons for a half second to view pages you've been to. Firefox 4 has this functionality now unfortunately. I'm starting to get used to it though...

Sorry, I don't get it. Why would firefox go copy chrome. People who want a chrome-looking browser should just download chrome. People who want a firefox-looking browser should able to get one. I don't like the new look.

In both chrome and firefox, you can right click on backward(or forwards) to see the list. Why would anyone use the slow way?

At least Opera allows me to customize the UI however I want. I made it look close to Opera 7, but not exactly like it.
(click to show/hide)

I hate the Chrome-type UI where everything is hidden.

press alt? last time i used the beta you could customize it. downloading it again now to check out the changes.

EDIT: confirmed, alt works.

EDIT: and you can also disable tabs on top too.

EDIT: statusbar is now called addon bar, took me a while to figure that out.

Its not just stability ......... it much more about giving all my plugin vendors time to catch up ........... You get past 10-15+ years of seeing new version pop up and your appetite for installing every RC ( rather than waiting another month or so )
tends to wane somewhat  :P
