Blue Ray RW/HD DVD-ROM

(1/3) > >>

Tihomir:
A lot of HD Anime can't fit in to DVD or double layer DVD, so buying Blue Ray seems like a logical choice, but its freaking expensive like 200 euro's.
Blue Ray disc Capacity   25 GB (single-layer)  ,50 GB (dual-layer)   ,100/128 GB (BDXL).
Eather this or external Hard Dics that cost same.
I can't decide , but i prefer Blue Ray.
Sugestions please.
Thank you in advance.

Edit:I want to do this so i can free some space on my shelf for more anime. It's like i will have one blue ray disc or external hard instead of 25 DVD's that take a lot of space.Yeah i like to have all my anime on disc's with pictures and stuff.

Did you look that one up? Seems to be relatively cheap at around 80€, but i don't know if the quality is sufficient, looks good though. Might want to check that one out. Downside: No BDXL unfortunately

rostheferret:
BDXL is new technology and of course expensive. You think the players are expensive? You think the discs are gonna be any cheaper?

I picked up a Blu-Ray burner about 9 months ago for ~$100, but for storage surely a HDD is better? Easier to back up, smaller (physically), cheaper, quicker, etc, etc. I'm not entirely sure what you're asking for; why would you want to replace your expensive collection with a few written disks and a hard drive? Most people tend to go the other way :P

Freedom Kira:
Note that disc media tends to degrade over time. After a couple years on the shelf, some DVDs become unreadable. This is typically not a problem with hard drives unless you expose them to fluctuating magnetic fields fairly frequently. I love alliteration.

Anyway, I don't quite understand why you would prefer to use discs to store your media when hard drives provide more reliable storage (both the writing process and keeping long-term integrity), more storage (a 2TB 3.5" external HDD costs about $120 now, and a 1TB 2.5" costs about the same) for less money per gigabyte. Not to mention the external HDD doesn't need a burner, which costs even more money, easily more than a 2TB drive.

The main disadvantages would be single point of failure, and lack of "physical feel," for lack of a better term. Single point of failure means that if your drive dies, everything is lost, instead of just losing what's on one disc when it fails. This is why people keep backups of data. By "physical feel" I mean you don't get to flip through stuff with your hands, and instead have to click through folders/directories, but I don't think this bothers most people.

My disks from the mid 1990s still work.
