Oh, god, choosing a favorite beer would be like picking a favorite metal band, or picking a favorite child (if I had kids).  My most beloved beer would probably be

And Bud Light? Really?

Don't take my comment literally, it was a joke.  That was just a picture of part of my beer bottle collection from one angle.  It just happens to be showing the domestic beers part of the collection.  Most of the bottles in that section are from, like, 1995 or 1996.  The only time I drink a domestic like Bud is a) if someone else buys it, or b) if I'm at metal concert.

Hard to think of an actual favorite offhand, but Hoegarden is pretty good.  There was also an Irish Cream Ale I used to love, but I can't find it around here anymore.

am I the only one who doesnt like beer..?? it tastes like piss.. I can only drink half a 0.33 beer and then it starts to taste bad..

Sounds like you've only ever had Lager. There's a ridiculous number of varieties of beer, Lager is brewed as quickly as possible to remove as much taste from it for people who want to get drunk but are too wussy to crack open a bottle of scotch.

Yah, lager is not a good way to introduce people to beer IMO.  Personally, I think pale ale or maybe an irish red is a better style to try at first, although I suppose it depends on the person.

I live in Thousand Oaks so I'm about an hour away from LA. I'm sure theres shiteloads of places out here. There's gotta be!

Nice I live out in riverside. I know were i live there is at least 3 small specialty liquor stores that carry all around the world beers you would never know it from the outside of the place as it looks like any normal liquor store. I would check around your local area if i were you even stores like world market carry a decent selection also.

I have tried brewing my own I started out with the basic all in one kits from Mr.Beer then started adding my own ingredients to there pre mix's and using different yeast. It was fun but took a lot of time that I do not have anymore. Im sure some of the fancy setups might work faster but it was 2 weeks in the keg, 2 weeks carbonating, and 2 weeks conditioning.

@OP

Beck's tastes like dishwater.

That's right, it sucks compared to pretty much everything around here.

I've had draught Guiness while in London and remember it was good, unfortunately, there's only Guiness in bottles to be bought here, it's still pretty good, but not the best. The best bottled beer I can have on a regular basis is probably wheat beer by either by Paulaner or Erdinger, both are good breweries.

My first beer was Bud Light unfortunately. I didn't drink beer for YEARS after that. Newcastle was the beer that got me into beer.

Stella is really good! I HATE that little wrap around the bottle cap though.

Well, maybe to you Becks tastes like dishwater and that's fine; it's your opinion. Taste is subjective though. I happen to really like Becks and it tastes good with most of the food I like. In the couple times I've had Guiness, it was from the tap and it tasted like paint thinner. Go figure.  :-\

I'll have to look around on Google for any places that might carry imported beers near me. From what I gather, brewing is time-consuming process and time is something I don't really have given that I am a student at the moment. Some day I will give it a shot though.

Maybe so. I just find Beck's lacking in taste. It's too bland for me. It tastes like the water beer glasses have been washed in, "dish water". I prefer it when a beer hits my taste buds like a hammer, Beck's is like having them hit with a cotton pad.

Fair enough, friend. I like somewhat strong beer too; just not THAT strong. Rather than a hammer, lets say I like when beer kisses my tastes buds  :)

My go to dark beer.  It's mild enough to kick back a sixer in an evening(and at only 7.2pct, I'm not going to have a hangover the next day), but the balance is definitely skewed towards hops.

If I want something to sip on, I'll go with Dogfish Head's Palo Santo Marron or Great Divide's Oak Aged Yeti.  British stouts are completely unsatisfying after having had some of the better stouts, strong ales, and heavy browns from American microbreweries, Belgian breweries, and Eastern European breweries.

For something a little lighter, I really like Boulevard's Tank 7.  It's considerably hoppier than most Saisons, avoiding the syrupy, medicinal taste American attempts at that style tend to have.

My favorite lager is the Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Urbock, although I've been unable to find any rauchbier in Houston.  Maybe I'll be able to find the Flying Dog Dog Shwarz if I look hard enough.

My favorite style though, is the Belgian IPA.  Flying Dog's Raging Bitch has been a lifesaver this year at about $8 per six pack, but I still would rather have the real thing - Piraat or Houblon Chouffe.

And it's obvious you have no fucking clue what lagering means.  Go drink a bottle of Samichlaus.

I see alot of varieties in here, but can't say I have had most.
The thing about beer for me is this; I drink it to get drunk. What I look for in my beer is a reasonable taste to start but can go down like water after one or two and can fill my stomach with, so this leaves me in the lager camp. My next step is to find one that doesn't cost too much but isn't absolute bottom shelf wino shit. So that leaves me with something local and generic- in my case, that's one of a few Miller products. I refuse to pay 2x the price when I plan on slamming the shit and just getting shit-faced.
Some exceptions to this rule are when I am having friends over. Then its generally a small-medium size keg of High Life and a variety of local micro-brewery stuff. If someone wants to drink Budweiser, Micky's or some import, then they are gonna have to bring it themselves.

Now on the other hand, when I want to taste my alcohol and have something nice, I buy hard liqueur. When that is the case I will pick up a congac or a fine scotch, or on occasion, rum for rum and cokes, but rum&coke is getting back to the just getting drunk stage and usually only when there is a girl over, cuz they don't tend to like beer for some reason.

Becks isn't bad.  I like it.

Miller Lite and PBR are what I usually drink though.  (I keep it simple ^_^... and cheap!)

Since you're in California, you should be able to find Ballast Point beers.  Try their Sculpin IPA and tell me how it is.

My local BevMo has Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Maerzen. Have you tried that one?

Amen! Gotta go with the good deals sometimes!

I found out that my local BevMo carries this!!! It's 8 bucks for a 22ounce bottle though wow. I'll pick one up none the less. I'll let you know. Ballast Point is in San Diego which is like 3 hours from me. If I like their IPA, I might head down there one day and take a tour.

Which style of Hoegaarden do you recommend?

Their Belgian white is the only kind I've seen in local stores in my area. I definitely recommend it.
