I happen to really like Becks and it tastes good with most of the food I like. In the couple times I've had Guiness, it was from the tap and it tasted like paint thinner. Go figure.  :-\

Maybe so. I just find Beck's lacking in taste. It's too bland for me. It tastes like the water beer glasses have been washed in, "dish water". I prefer it when a beer hits my taste buds like a hammer, Beck's is like having them hit with a cotton pad.

Fair enough, friend. I like somewhat strong beer too; just not THAT strong. Rather than a hammer, lets say I like when beer kisses my tastes buds  :)

My go to dark beer.  It's mild enough to kick back a sixer in an evening(and at only 7.2pct, I'm not going to have a hangover the next day), but the balance is definitely skewed towards hops.

If I want something to sip on, I'll go with Dogfish Head's Palo Santo Marron or Great Divide's Oak Aged Yeti.  British stouts are completely unsatisfying after having had some of the better stouts, strong ales, and heavy browns from American microbreweries, Belgian breweries, and Eastern European breweries.

For something a little lighter, I really like Boulevard's Tank 7.  It's considerably hoppier than most Saisons, avoiding the syrupy, medicinal taste American attempts at that style tend to have.

My favorite lager is the Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Urbock, although I've been unable to find any rauchbier in Houston.  Maybe I'll be able to find the Flying Dog Dog Shwarz if I look hard enough.

My favorite style though, is the Belgian IPA.  Flying Dog's Raging Bitch has been a lifesaver this year at about $8 per six pack, but I still would rather have the real thing - Piraat or Houblon Chouffe.

Sounds like you've only ever had Lager. There's a ridiculous number of varieties of beer, Lager is brewed as quickly as possible to remove as much taste from it for people who want to get drunk but are too wussy to crack open a bottle of scotch.

And it's obvious you have no fucking clue what lagering means.  Go drink a bottle of Samichlaus.

I see alot of varieties in here, but can't say I have had most.
The thing about beer for me is this; I drink it to get drunk. What I look for in my beer is a reasonable taste to start but can go down like water after one or two and can fill my stomach with, so this leaves me in the lager camp. My next step is to find one that doesn't cost too much but isn't absolute bottom shelf wino shit. So that leaves me with something local and generic- in my case, that's one of a few Miller products. I refuse to pay 2x the price when I plan on slamming the shit and just getting shit-faced.
Some exceptions to this rule are when I am having friends over. Then its generally a small-medium size keg of High Life and a variety of local micro-brewery stuff. If someone wants to drink Budweiser, Micky's or some import, then they are gonna have to bring it themselves.

Now on the other hand, when I want to taste my alcohol and have something nice, I buy hard liqueur. When that is the case I will pick up a congac or a fine scotch, or on occasion, rum for rum and cokes, but rum&coke is getting back to the just getting drunk stage and usually only when there is a girl over, cuz they don't tend to like beer for some reason.

i am partial towards Hoegaarden.  the Europeans don't fuck around when it comes to beer crafting.   :)
